The original thread on on ODFU and there are 4 pics there too. Here's the text but I can't crosspost the pics.....
Here is the thread on ODFU
ok...so I went for a spin today up through the islands of VT. I left around 12:30 and I have to work at 4 so I am like...plenty of time. I jam through the islands - straight roads - until I come to my turn and there is a gas station. Don't need gas but it's 93 out and I need some water. I grab a water and a whoopie pie . looking at my tank bag I'm thinkin about taking a swing through CanadiaLand as there looks to be a little route there and I love the backcountry border crossings. I go back inside to see if the lady behind the counter has a map that I can write down a few routes from. I pulls one out from under the counter and blows the dust off of it (literally). I was like 'can i write down a few routs off it?'. She says ' take it'. Thanks Highgate Mobil station lady
So i gets to goin on my route and about 35 minutes or so later I get to the border crossing out in the middle of freakin nowhere. I love these things.. Basically a 1.5 lane road with a booth on it. The Frenchy Customs guy is outside on a white lawn chair with his feet up on a picnic bench - he never moves from this spot ...... I stop and turn off the bike...
me: hello.....enjoyin the weather?
Frenchy Customs Guy (FCG): oh yeah
...waiting...
FCG: Where you from?
me: vermont...colchester
FCG: where you goin?
me: just on a trip through route... to route....
FCG: you got anything with you?
me: just what you see
FCG: enjoy the ride
me: Thanks - enjoy the weather
I leave. No you cross one of these borders and you can all but instantly tell that you are in another country. The roads are cracked up with grass growing through, the signs are in frenchy (if there are any - this becomes important in like a minute and a half), kilometers is the speed and the land is poo-poo smelly and barren with only cows.....
All I can think to myself is that the road that I am on would RULE if:
1) there were less cracks
2) there was less dirt towards the sides
3) i knew the speed limit
4) [imporant one] there was more signage..
About 3-4 miles later and a bunch of turns with no signs I come to another turn that I didn't even know was there. You see, you come over this burm and you can see a road going straight. What you don't realize is that is a dirt road in really BAD shape and the road goes to the left. There is a house on the left side with a ton of brush, trees, bushes around it so I couldn't even see the turn.....Next thing I know - I'm on top of it... I get on the brakes (front and back) and start downshifting. I only get down a gear and my rear locks up.....oh FUCK...I gots nowhere to go...the back end starts to fishtail a bit - OH FUCK...I HAVE NOWHERE TO GO I stay on it and put some more weight on the pegs to try to stablize myself a bit.....I headed off the road and there is nothing that I can do to stop it. All I can see if the beginings of small cornstocks and manure ridden dirt and I can't stop:unsure:. I go through the brush there and end up in the field - upright
I get back onto the dirt road and stop......look at the cows lookin at me and flip the fuckin frenchy cows off and grab the camera....I got really REALLY lucky on this one. The pics are below......
I get moving and eventally..a long ways away...i come to a stop sign. I think that this is the road that I want but there is...guess what....NO FUCKIN SIGNS....
I figure that it is headed the way that I need to go and if it isn't the route that I need it should connect to the one that I am lookin for.... Turns out that it brought me to the right place but it wasn't the road that I wanted. I stop cause I need gas...Shell station
The guy (full serve) comes up and says regular (with the emphasis ont the u) and I say sure. I fill her up and hand him my card. he leaves and a REALLY HOT chick comes back.. I sign the shit and hand it to her and in the HOTTEST french I've ever hear, he says 'merci boku" ->instawoody.......she winks, flips her hair and walks away....I sat there watching her leave like holy fuck that was hot.....
Anyway - I made it home before work- barely and did so only because I ripped through the backcountry of VT going 85. It was a fun ride minus the near dump....
So here the pics....

Glad you saved it but damn how fast were you going?
The pictures don't look nearly as bad as you made it sound in your writing! It looks like you could rail that corner!
Ben
I wasn't even goin that fast but the problem is that the approach is blind and ther was NO warning...... If I knew the road there wouldn't have been a problem but I was thinking that I was goin straight and last second it was goin left.....Originally posted by benSV

From skid to stop was total about 40-50 yards..... bumpy run

Well I'm guessing you must have been moving pretty good to need that much room to stop!
I bet you won't do it again!
I have wondered about that a lot up in VT. Last year I remember being up in the Northeast Kingdom... middle of nowhere. Really opening my bike up, but lots of places where the visibility can sneak up on you!
Can't see ahead == Roll off!
Ben
1 - nice dismount, glad you kept the shiney side up
2 - is a story involes a smokin bitch who speaks french & there's pics to go allong w/ the story... Don't post em unless you got pics of a smokin bitch that speaks french![]()

yeah I def learned my lesson on blind turn but it really felt like the road was goin straight.. I let off the brake, stopped the slide, as I came off the pavement cause i didn't want her locked up when goin into the field so I rolled her out through there. I don't remember my real speed but I was goin around 40-50 i think.Originally posted by benSV

Damn you Canadia for no signage![]()
All the backroads that I have been on in VT have been fine cause there is the signage to go along with the curve but there was no sign here. I was able to ride hard the rest of the way home when I got into the US because, even though I have never been on the road, there were signs telling when turns were coming up..
Was a fun but crazy ride.![]()
I def know better now when it comes to riding north of the border
Bras cause cancer.
I knew that was gonna come up.. I was so dumbfounded by her that the only thing that I could manage was "thanks". I was kickin myself for not talkin to her to keep her around to look at for a bit but I sitting there with my jaw held up by my chinstrap. Glad I had a helmet on cause I bet my face looked pretty silly...sillier than normal anywyaOriginally posted by OreoGaborio

You're absolutly right about the bad conditions of the roads in Quebec. Everytime I go up there, it start getting bad quiet a few miles before the borders and then it gets worse after the borders. Not fun when you're on a bike! You may not find many roads signs in the country setting. But at least, if you go in the cities, you'll find every damn streets being labeled. Here in US, that's one thing that pisses me off, most streets are not labeled with the name of the street! Try also to find a door number when people don't put door numbers on their homes....argnn...lol
So....like...you like the french accent uh?*wink wink*
Glad you're ok....next time try to look up the map more before going on a trip "on the other side"....hahahaha!!!

well i had a map that showed the routes I was takin but it wasn't detailed enough to show side roads. as far as I knew i was taking the first main right, which i did but that wasn't the right one.....Originally posted by MissTwisties

no - that's long after the curve but it was a fairly similar situation to that. Not quite as big of a burm but close. imagine goin over that and then 50 yards after there is a 90 degree left turn there.... Scary
Suf - Sax has asked that we dont remote link to any site other than ODFU which is why I didn't post them here. If you wouldn't mind, could you remove that link for me? THanks Boss
Suf - you makin an appearence at The Stock?

What's the problem of posting the links on NESR?![]()

stealin his bandwith......he set it up for ODFU and only ODFU but if you ask he usually doesn't have a problem with it but I didn't get a chance to ask if it was ok. There was a problem recently with people using his site to post pics elsewhere and we almost killed his bandwith...If people do't mind hitting ODFU to see the pics then I would prefer that as opposed to using his bandwidth.
It had nothing to do that this is NESR....Sax loves everyone but he pay $$ for bandwith and he is kind enough to let people use it for one site that I sdon'r want to take advantage of himand kis kindness and lose the ability to upload pics.
Thanks for understanding![]()
