OMG....a Ford vs. Chevy battle.....i love it
I started the thread to enlighten folk about concerns using race compound tires on the street and attempted to explain why, hoping by the inclusion of my rationale it might spread around - thinking it takes well though out reasoning to make a valid point on any side of a discussion... silly me
I should have just said, "race compound tires are junk-ass on the street"![]()

Just a brand loyalty my friend. You see it all around. I'm a Suzuki guy. I hate Kawi's... Don't even have a good reason... Go figure.
I've also never been a Bridgestone fan. GSX-Rs come with them as a stock tire. Which leads me to believe that Bridgestone was the lowest bidder when Suzuki was shopping for tires. So they geet a cheap tire for a cheap price. When I shop for tires, price is not the first part of the decision. I'd rather have what I believe to be a high quality tire vs. a tire because it was the least expensive.
And... Part of my original comment was a "shot" at Mike (Mr. Kurtz). We're close friends off of the forums, and I know he's running Bridgestone tires.![]()

trust me, he means CLOSE
I would go as far as to say, all tire manufacturers have good tires, but not that we cannot tell a difference at "our" level.
I used to run dunlops, the 209 GP made in USA was CRAP compared to the 209 GP made in britain. I had heard the rumors, but decided they were just biased, until one day I tried to save some $ and buy the US tire ($90 cheaper on A rider pricing) and felt like I was in a harescamble in the mud.
Also, posting anything about what the pros use is a joke, because "we" don't see those tires.
Anywho, original post was good reminder.
Well I did lots of reading before buying the 002's, it just worked out well that there are a few places that sell them really cheap. Most places are selling them closer to MSRP...prices comparable to powers and diablos...maybe even more expensive than them from some shops.
I know the older bridgestones were beyond terrible, OEM gixxer tires. My 07 gixxer 1k is the first bike that came with bridgestones, bt-015. People said they were terrible, but I thought they were pretty good. I knew bridgestones not so good rep when I bought that bike...I was kinda bummed Suzuki didn't put powers on it or something better. To my surprise the strips were scrubbed before I got the bike home and the only time the 15's broke lose without me trying......was when I should have known better in the first place.![]()
Street Tires are Street Tires Anybodies BT Corsa III Pilot powers ect are all good tires,And I dont Know anybody that exceeds the limits of them on the street. This whole Trackday Street Tire thing is a grey area 99% of them are just good street tires and they work fine until you try to put in FAST laps, Like trying to pick The throttle earlier in the corner the diffrence will Show itself Quickly.
If the tire is sold in Diffrent compound choices its most likely a race tire.
I dont trust Street tires on the track (with Me)
I dont trust Race tires on the street
