Rear tire that won't flatspot for SV650?

I've gotten great life out of the Pilot Powers that came on my bike (installed brand new by the dealer before I bought it, 16,500 miles ago), but the rear has got a huge flatspot. Anyone know a good dual-compound or similar tire that'll hold up to commuting?

I've got the Pirelli Angel ST's on mine and I love them so far. I've only put about 500 miles on them, but I understand they should go for about 7k without flattening, and they're still nice and sticky.

You're not going to do any better than that, I think. Any of the dual-compound touring tires (Road 2CT, Avon Storm/Azaro, Angel ST's) will have a similar hard compound in the center of the tire, and softer sides.

Yeah, 16k out of a rear tire? I DREAM of that kinda mileage! If you want any more than that, you'd have to go with a car tire

For the price that PP's are going for these days (less than $200 a set) and how much milage you have gotten, GET THEM AGAIN!!!!

How the hell do you get 16,500 miles out of bike tires? I run touring tires (Pilot Road 2) and in 16,500 miles, I'll go through three sets of them.

Tires should be replaced when the rubber is worn down, not the wheels. Was the bike's handling pretty squirrelly for the last 10k miles or so?

fwiw, the Avon Distanzia ia a dualsport/motard tire and is definately NOT a duyal compound tire

Avon's sport touring tires are the Storm2 or Azaro ST, I don't believe either dual compound, Avon uses a variable belt density, that allows the edges to flex more and get warmer

that said, of all the tires I've tried, I prefer Avons as a sport touring street tire

there is one way to improve on 16.5k

darkside I fully expect 25k minimum from my rear tire and won't be surprized if it lasts 40k

Re: Rear tire that won't flatspot for SV650?

    I'm not darksiding the SV!

I weigh 150 to 155, soaking dry. With gear and or wet, probably a little more.

I honestly don't know how I got all those miles, but it passed MA inspection in May with 15k miles on it. The front was the same age but failed. The rear is getting old but not yet down to the wear bars, I'll take a pic if needed.

My best guess is that the bike barely even touched a highway for the first year or so that I owned it... strictly urban commuting from Waltham to Boston, tons of stoplights, rarely above 40 mph, and no chance for the tires to really heat up. I do about 50% highway now but I'm pretty gentle on the throttle and brakes.
