Lately ive been really looking at getting back into the older sportbikes. Some of them have just so much character and just plain look good. I think it maybe time for me to get rid of my 01 gsxr 750 and step back a few years. Id love to a hayabusa but they are just so pricey. Im really gonna start looking for a 98-99 red/white r1, 93-94 900rr any color or maybe even a 94-99 900rr in some of the odder colors. The gsxr has been good to me but i havent even rode it for more than 2 years. I think my problem is i took it too far from stock. Its got just about every racer part on it that i could reasonable consider for street use and its just too much. now i just want an older bike with some style and power. I cant say Id be looking for a 600.
Anyone got any suggestions on some other bikes I should check out. Ive got about 15k into my 750 but i think I could possibly get 3500 for it as is and that maybe pushing it. So what ever ideas you toss out try to keep it in that range or something that could be traded evenly for. The dream of a ducati or aprilia just isnt going to happen.
So far my list of possible bikes it:
98-99 r1. they just look nasty and have that dangerous reputation.
93-94 900rr. hard to find clean ones and getting harder plus they were the original bad boy of modern bikes.
maybe a blackbird? Its newer but very rare.
older race prep zx7rr from factory. Hard to find but ive seen afew. I always regretted not buying one when i had the chance new in the crate. I was stupid and bought the regular one and about 10k in upgrades to try to make it unique. It sucked and ive always hated myself for doing it.
are you SET on a spotbike?
900RRs were great bikes but like you said it will be hard to find one, but you can get that motor in a 919. its not a sportbike but i really think they are cool and unique because you dont see many (if any) around

00' CBR929rr in VT on CL with Euro colors for $3950.
Selling my CBR 929RR with under 15,000 miles. Oil changed every 3,000 miles or less. Very reliable and great running bike. Just put a new m3 tire on the rear. The front still has lots of life left. This is the Fireblade model that was from Canada which is a harder to find bike. Ive only ever seen 1 other in Vermont. I never beat this bike or stunted it. Very fast bike and not for beginners. Bike is turn key ready to go. Come take a look and you wont be dissapointed.
Accessories
Yoshimura Exhaust
Scotts Steering Stabilizer
Frame Sliders
Undertail kit
Flush mount Blinkers (front and rear)
Headlight decal (same visibility but looks better in my opinion)
Looking to get 3950 obo. May trade for other bikes (must be around same engine size)

I actually like the 919 but your right they are hard to find. Even on cl they pop up very rarely.
Im kinda set on a sport bike too. I just like the looks of some of the cleaner old ones. Ive found a few really nice rr's but they wont trade they just want out of bikes. Id rather not take the chance on selling my bike then not finding any decent replacements until I know what interests me.
Having owned a 94' CBR900rr and a 00" CBR929rr and your coming from a 01' GSXR-750 I don't think you'll enjoy a 94' 900rr.
that 929 is sick
Ive had the 900rrs before as well as the 954, 929 and the 1000. While the 900rr is pretty much a dog compared to everything else its just a nice bike that id like keep around. I should never have sold any of mine. I think they are the best looking of those era sport bikes too. The next closest thing that catches my eyes are the early red/white r1's but those are super hard to find. Id consider one of those as a piece for my living room display.
Go way back, '89 or '90 GSXR 1100.
I thought about that. Ive actually seen a couple really nice 1100's in the last few weeks but im so cramped on them. They are cheap too.
A 94, a 96 and 2 different 99 900rr's right here

dont like the round lights on the 94
i cant see the 96s lights but i think they went to the "cat eyes" in 95. id replace the exhaust. that dual shit is gross
not a fan of the 99s. they were cool bikes but looked like a bloated 96
another point of order if youre looking at the RRs, is make sure they dont have that gay 16" wheel on the front still. you dont want to fork over more $$ to convert it to 17" after you buy it. i think 16" tire choices may be limited

Way overrated, tire selection is not that bad....
Go with a R1.

if I was gonna rate that list I'd go:
#1-ZX7RR because that was a special bike.
#2-first gen R1 great looking bike, better overall package than the 900rr
#3-900rr did set a new standard but anything older than 98 did nothing for me and even then still not a huge fan.
LRRS Am #331
Graphic Tailor / Woodcraft / Armour Bodies / Suomy / Cycle Performance Autobody / Shorai / ChickenHawk Racing
I just dont care to ride it anymore. too many people left the bike world so i was usually just riding by myself. Id go on rides from here abit but I just never got into them. Truthfully its kind of aweful on the streets now. You fell every bump and dip. On the track its great and is probably one of the best bikes ive ever ridden but i dont track at all anymore. I was enjoying my ex500 more for the streets towards the end. Now I just want a bike thats good looking and rides ok.
I cant even think of everything Ive done to it. The majors are pvm rims, 06 1000 front end, penske triple clicker, carbon/kevlar sebimoto bodywork, woodcraft everything, ti header, some wacky triple tree clamp(when i did that i knew I had gone too far for mods, It really made the bike a track only bike at that point.) and a bunch of other stuff. Its not the prettiest bike and its been ridden but it runs like a raped ape.

You want to ' downgrade ' , then go all the way...![]()
parting it maybe an option.
This guy kind of has a point: Have you considered going for a non-sport bike? Maybe a sport-tourer or muscle cruiser?
I 'downgraded' from a liter+ nekkid/hooligan bike to my "wee" strom. I get a lot of funny looks for that. But I couldn't be happier. Lighter, (somewhat) cheaper bike, more expendable. I worry more about riding now and less about where the cops are at. Brings me back to the late 70's Honda 400 I grew up riding.
