Getting back into the game! Looking for my next bike!
that makes us look good huh![]()
"In many cases, "extreme motorcyclists" -- thrill-seekers who pop wheelies while pushing their machines to the max, at times over 100 mph -- film their exploits for display, at times for online sale."
Not only in Missouri....I remember a gang doing the same shit (not naming their group...) on highways in and around Boston not so long ago...![]()
and I regret to say we are one of the many who bought their video while at one stunt show 2 years ago. At the time we tought it was cool....but after thought, buying their video was only to encourage them to keep doing it.
There is a place and time for everything, stunting on public roads is without a doubt putting everybody else at risk and it's not right.

this is stupid on so many levels. i'm sorry that there were people injured but if i read this correctly only 1 out of 8 people were wearing seatbelts. it's interesting that both the motor vehicles involved were suv's - not know for their safety or quick handling. not to be a bitch but i wouldn't be at all surprised if either (or both) of the drivers were gabbing on cell phones at the time.
the only normal people are the ones you don't know very well.
I have to agree that's kind of amusing.Originally posted by Mystery Squid
"Sometimes, authorities said, packs of 10 or 15 sport motorcyclists have raced on Phoenix-area highways, terrifying other motorists. Often, one officer lamented, "their kick is to find cops, race by them, give them the middle finger salute or wave at the officer. They are out of sight in the blink of an eye.""
I'm sorry but,

Just like anything else, there are some stunters who are dangerous and some who are careful about not hurting others.
"During a three-hour drive home last weekend from Pennsylvania, she said she saw motorcyclists "going so fast, weaving in and out of traffic. It was so outrageous. They had to be going 80, 90, 100 miles per hour.""
I can't even begin to count the number of times I have seen someone driving 80 to 90 mph in a car while yacking into a cell phone. Also, they wouldn't have to weave if people would remember to stay right except to pass. When did people forget about ther lane system? Perhaps the danger isn't the motorcyclists, but the cars that are dis-obeying the most basic of traffic laws...

A lot of good points.
How about some stats as to how many motorcyclists/bicyclists/pedestrians are killed by SUV drivers each year, and compare that with SUV drivers/passengers killed by motorcyclists, etc..
No kidding about the speed. What is more dangerous.. the bike going 90mph or the SUV going 90mph. I have been on the highway a lot going 90mph and had SUVs going faster. It just happened last night. I wonder if the exploder driver has gone to track days or taken any training as he does 100mph in the darkness.
Ben
Ben VFR, take it back one more step. What speed is the SUV designed to drive safely vs. what the bike is designed to do? This doesn't even take into account wear and tear on tires, brakes and suspension or distractions within the vehicle. How many SUV owners check their tire pressure before running 80 on the intersate?

BTW if you had to decide between two videos what would you select.
Video A of people stunting in a parking lot
or
Video B of people stunting all the streets of Boston, getting into highspeed chases with the cops, and bikes crashing on I93 during rush hour?
Yea, I would pick video 2 also

Hahahahaha MissTwisties you are one funny person. I for one would not consider Driving To Endanger a gang. I assume that is the "gang" you are talking about. Can you explain how that stunt team was a gang?Originally posted by MissTwisties

Thank god these people were white. Imagine if they were hispanic, lived in springfield, posed on their street bikes, and then stunted on the streets. Damn I bet you would be on the phone with the FBI.![]()

I'm not even going to begin to defend myself. I've had debate upon debate and I'm not getting myself worked up today.
But, I will tell you this....
9 out of 10 stunt riders (not squids who pop the occasional wheelie on a backroad) can control a motorcycle better on 1 wheel than 60-70% of regular motorcycle riders who ride on 2. I've been riding for years and I've ridden with just about every skill level. I've seen some real idiots.... especially bozo's on cruisers.
I guess my point is... it was probably the lack of calm control on the SUV drivers behalf and not so much on the streetbike's erratic behavior. The driver freaked out.
I like reading those articles... they blow things WAY out of proportion. I would say I personally know 80% of all stunt riders within this country (I know what you're thinking but I've been involved for years it's a pretty small community) and I can count the death toll on 1 hand. Do you know how many regular riders I know who have died?..... hundreds. And, do you know how many car drivers I know?..... thousands!!
So where's the danger?

He is right chances are if the soccer mom didnt panic she proly woulda been fine....people need to take resposiblity for thier actions...shit happens on the road....what if it was a 18wheeler tire blowing up or a deer running out.....
I agree that the stunters were wrong in doing what they were doing...but like i said shit happens....
..... I should just give up but this shit strikes a nerve sometimes.
Perfect For Instance.... I feel as though I am less of a liability riding a wheelie down Main St than my friends girlfriend is just riding down Main St on her motorcycle. She has a higher chance of crashing / causing an accident than me.... even riding normally. Nothing against her but she has very little time on a bike. She owns her own machine and past her license test with flying colors but I have a higher level of control.
It all comes down to the rider. It's such an ambiguous subject.

She had control.. she decided not to hit the idiot on the bike.
If the ford was close enough for her to hit it was more then likely in her blind spot.
Im sure given a second chance she would have hit the ass hat on the bike.
as far as lot vs highway footage.. thats bs..
its untalented stunters and editors using filler and drama to sell over talent. I would by a video of MotoGP or Isle on Man over a video of a bunch of ass holes trying to drag knee on puplic
if it was a tire.. then its an accident. tire doesnt have a choice..Originally posted by bigred875

"Regular" Riders... operative term. You've probably spent time on a track. You work on your skill level and riding a bike is more than just something you do on a sunny day.Originally posted by nefarious

no, but when I see someone come up to a red light and accidently skid and dump a bike... for absolutely no reason other than lack of control.Originally posted by nefarious

I find it fun to scare the crap out of soccer mom's on the highway. One time I was going down 95 and a soccer mom was all over the road talking on her cell phone. I pulled up to her window and kicked off her side view mirror. She got scared and jerked the wheel. The babies head in the back seat banged against the window rom the jerk. It was so funny. I mean I never seen a babies head hit the side window so hard. I was laughing the entire way home.

Hahah.. FTrain you got your asbestos suit on?
Nefarious... I'm not a big fan of stunting either... but why are you so eager to bust on other riders and defend the snoozing cagers who try to kill you every day? There are multiple sides to every story. I doubt this person in the SUV was doing the speed limit paying attention to their surroundings, and had a lot of driver training. There is fault to go around everywhere. Not to mention driving that big of a vehicle with that many passengers without making them wear seatbelts.
Yep, the stunting sounds like the wrong place at the wrong time. But there has been no accountability for car drivers for so long the bar just keeps getting lowered. And it is so easy to blame the motorcyclists as the fringe element.
Ben
I think it's simple cause and effect. The motorcycle was the cause, the accident was the effect you can speculate about a thousand other things that could have happened or aliviate the motoryclists's's's's responsibility by pointing fingers at a bad driver. How much "Driver training" do any of you have? I took drivers ed about 10 years ago and that's my exstent, and i can't say I have ever told anyone in my car that they had to put their seatbelts on. That's just a copout. The driver should not have to live defensively so that they can be safe when some kids want to try to sell videos or T-shirts by breaking the law on public streets, and I'm Ted Coppel and that's the bottom line.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

good point but that motorcycle could just as easily been a car switching lanes or accidently swarving over. In which case, it would be considered a "typical" situation. But, because a wheelie is out of the norm, it's considered "flat out" the main cause.
