    STUUUUUUUUPPPPPPIIIIIIIDDDDD GSXR!!!! JOCKEY NO HAPPY!

Yup, she's broke. Probably broke good. Flame on. All you filthy GSX-R haters have yourselves a ball...

Bound and determined to ride today. I got a call from a buddy to meet up for a ride. I jumped right on the bike and spent the next three hours getting lightly rained on, mixed with getting poured on...

The rain stopped and we decided to break for lunch. After lunch everyone was splitting up to go home. They were all headed the opposite direction of my house, but since the roads had dried, I decided to go for a small blast up the highway with them before heading home myself.

We go at a "spirited pace" for about 10 miles or so, and I get off an exit to turn around. I make the loop back under the high way, turn onto the entrance ramp and the bike DIES. It didn't sputter, it didn't hesitate, it didn't hiccup first. It just instantly DIED!

As soon as the bike died, the FI light started to blink. (this makes me a little nervous since I have never seen one blinking before, they throw the code and then stay on solid until you cycle the key.) I pulled over, turned the key on and off, and everything came back to life. The light and FI indicator were off, the fuel pump cycled, the bike started right up like normal. I gave it a few small blips to make sure that she was going to stay running. Put it in first and pulled away. I make it about 50 feet and it died again. Identical conditions. It started, drove a small distance and died, about 5 times. I'm now on the highway with a dead bike on the shoulder. A quick call to my brother and he is on the way to get me. He needed to come to me first and retrieve the keys to my truck. At this point it starts pouring again. YAY!!!

And all you cop haters can kiss my ass after today...

Shortly before my brother arrives a state trooper pulls up, asks me if I'm ok, asks if he can call anyone. I explained that the bike died, and my brother was on his way. He had me get in the car and out of the rain to wait for my brother. He told me to go with my brother to get my truck, and that he had to make a loop and come back down the opposite side of the highway and he would check on the bike (at this point he is parked in front of the bike sitting on the shoulder.) My brother arrives, we go get my truck and race back. When we get back the trooper is sitting behind the bike with his lights on. This guy was AWESOME. We loaded the bike. Officer Friendly pulls out to set a pick for us to get into traffic and we're on our way with my broken, POS, trophy.

I'll bring the bike to work this week and scan to see what it stored for codes. I'm dreading the though of what could cause an apparent ignition cut like that.

Anyone wanna buy a really overpriced GSX-R??

Proves that in an emergency like that the police can be a valuable asset...

was this the 750 or the 1000?

sorry to hear bike troubles are always a bummer, particularly weird electronic/FI ones that are seemingly impossible to diagnose.

did you happen to get the officer's name? might be worth sending him a thank you or fruit basket or something... helpful cops are wonderful. i know they're supposed to do that (the whole protecting and serving thing) but more often than not, you've done something to get them beside you writing out a citation.

And I'm sure they appreciate the thanks as well. I bet they get crap more often than thanks.

Hope you can sort it out, haven't heard of those bikes having crazy electronic issues.

+1 on the thank you note, people hardly ever follow through when they are treated good, but the complaints come quickly.

You should really stop at the gas station more often.

It would prevent these kinds of incidents.

Mine burps from time to time also. It has cut out comming up to a light after getting on it hard. Pull the code and check the TPS, that gives off a low idle stall symptom.(SP)srry

damn dude that sucks. probably something stuipid. we had all sorts of FI issues with the buell at the track awhile ago....turned out a spark plug wire had worked it's way loose that's all. maybe it just wants more chrome to fit in with the rest of it's gixxa buddies?

Re: STUUUUUUUUPPPPPPIIIIIIIDDDDD GSXR!!!! JOCKEY NO HAPPY!

Check the battery connections first, If they are tight check the codes. If the crank or cam position sensor fail to give proper values, the ECU will shut down the FI and ignition systems to prevent engine damage. Most other FI codes will put the ECU in "Limp Home Mode" and the bike will run on a preset map and store the code in Dealer mode. I doubt it's terminal.

i'm sure the bike's fine & you'll be kicking yourself later for how much of a simple fix it was.

i don't see you selling that baby with all the effort & money you put into it... but if you did want to sell it... i'll up one and say $110.

+1 for the cop. i've always given them credit - they've always been there for me. doesn't hurt that they're hot.

+1000 for you for actually taking it out - and in the rain nonetheless! you've come a long way - i'm so proud of you!

Yuck Noel sorry to hear your bike broke down. All cops arn't bad... Ive worked in 3 different police depts since college(2 dispatching and 1 crime scene photo development) to know that a good percentage of them are good guys and are willing to help out others! Glad you found a nice one versus a prick
