I always forget that the speed drops down to 55 when I hit the Mass line. Here in CT traffic moves right along at 75-80....sometimes 90.
In most cases with local town details, it's verizon or the electric company, for instance, that's paying the uniform $40/hour to stand there. With mass highway, that's a different story, the state will definately save a bunch of money.
But also, bear in mind that that cops have made arrests while on details and provided medical aid in duress situations. All it's going to take is one flagman to either cause and accident or fail to act when a guy in a hardhat falls out of a cherry picker.
In regards to the harrassing- out of uniform, those cops are just as well in there right to protest as any other free individual. As soon as they impeded the construction efforts, their cheif came down and gave them the boot.
The public should understand that detail pay is the last alluring thing driving officers to put on kevlar and a duty belt then go risking their lives. without details, a cops salary is average at best.
Sorry for reigniting this tangent
I also use to play mens league with the Westborough PD several years ago. Thier idea of a good time playing hockey was starting a brawl with a guy that could barely skate because he skated by the net. Then, drink 4-5 beers a piece in the locker room after the wrestling match and drive home. I have meet several polite, honest LEO's don't get me wrong. But the majority these days are completely FUBARed
hurray, strikethrough!

technically its supposed to be loss of license on the spot for double the speed limit.
that's some funny stuff right there... what a first post
p.s. let's not bullshit eachother, we all know that being a cop in a small new england upper class town is not risking your life. It's a cushy, secure job and you get paid to do nothing. Now these guys are complaining that they can't get paid double to do a little bit of extra nothing on the taxpayer's dime? Give me a break.

I got nabbed for speeding in my car a few weeks ago. The guy just wrote the actual speed on the ticket. No range of numbers.
You got off lucky. A couple weeks ago I got nabbed on 495. The car in front of me started slowing down and I didn't know why so I went to pass him. Before I even got in front of the car I was passing I saw why he was slowing down, the cop in the unmarked car sitting on the side of the road with the laser gun. I know when I was about to pass the car I was doing a little under 65 and when I saw the cop I let go of the throttle and looked at the speedo again and I was doing a hair under 75. He wrote me a estimated ticket of 93
I'm defiantly fighting this ticket, which I've never done before because every other ticket I have ever gotten I deserved it
