I store my bike at my workplace, since it's a warehouse and my boss gave his blessing. Today I took it out for a ride and noticed that the front fearing (above the headlight) was scratched up. After asking around, one of my coworkers admitted to dropping a box on my bike from the upper level. He thought it missed it (right...) so he didn't feel the need to tell me.
He's since said sorry, but I intend to ask him to pay the cost to have the front repainted, or at least touched up.
But I don't really know what to do from here. My bike is a weird "phantom gray" or something which has a metal flake in the paint. I don't think a body shop will be able to repaint it. I'd like to just have it touched up so it doesn't look so glaring and it has some clear coat and stuff. Should I take it to a Suzuki dealer or just any old body shop?

His name is rich. He's on the forum, his name is landricscustoms. He's awesome and reasonably priced. Just ask anyone who he's helped.
If it is factory paint then www.colorrite.com has touch up pens, aerosol cans, and small jars of paint that will be a match.

I dunno, I think if I wasn't paying for the space, it was an accident, and it was left in a position where something like this could have happened, I would feel uncomfortable asking someone to pay for the scratch.
Also, what's your boss going to think about it when he finds out you "demanded" a co-worker to pay for the damages? Your free parking/storage is gonna go byebye?

I agree, your bike was in the way of work getting done and it was an accident. He shouldnt have to pay anything.

I already spoke to my boss about it and he said he thought that the other employee should pay for the damages. I agree it was an accident and I guess if he came to me and told me what he did, I would be more understanding. But he made this mistake and didn't even come to tell me about it, hoping I wouldn't notice.
I think technically if your coworker was working while this happened it's your bosses liability not his. That is why most people would not let you store your bike in their place of business. If I was your coworker I would tell you to screw off and collect from the boss.

If it was an item on your desk, unless it was company property, it would be a personal item and personal items are not usually covered by the company if you decide to put them there and something happens to them. At my company, not covered, it's in the fine print of the employment agreement. As for the parking lot, chances are it's "park at your own risk" and there's either disclaimer signs or it's also in your employment agreement.
Be happy with that and call it a day
Forget the what ifs, your bike wasn't in the parking lot, it was inside a warehouse with workers. You put it there, and obviously in a place where overhead work is being done. Reach in your pocket, pull out money and pay for your own mistake and chalk it up as a small cost of storing your bike.

You or your boss cant legally make him pay for the damage. He was on company time so your boss is liable for the damage since he allowed you to store it there. If your boss somehow forces the employee to pay or fires him for not doing so it can be seen at retaliation and HELLO lawsuit.
Dont be a douche. Man the F up and take care of it.

Alright guys. You have all really changed my outlook on this. I'll take care of it myself.
I didn't mean to sound like a dick to anyone here. I know shit happens.. but you know, it's my bike and it was spotless before. My car has huge scratches on it, which I just brush off because I don't care that much about its appearance and it's parked on the street. To drop a box on the bike though, enough to screw up the paint, and not even tell me, especially since he has a really nice car himself, made me pretty upset.
But I you all are alright. Glad I posted this here before I talked to him. I would still like some recommendations for cheap places to bring it to (already PMd landrics), the damage is pretty glaring.
IMO, before you go crazy looking around for touch up, or a repaint, take a swing by your local Suzuki dealer and price out the new OEM body pannel that is scratched. You may be surprised at how close the costs may be, then figure in your time running around to drop off and pick up the bike after it's fixxed. Also, you're certain to get an exact match with an OEM part

I have been offeredto park my bike inside the garages at work and I denied the opportunity for this very reason. It sits outside in a normal spot in the shade. I knew that eventually a truck would back into it or someone would walk by and scratch it.
I agree with the above comment.
how big of a scratch are we talking here? if it were me, i'd say that coworker owes me lunch, but not a repaint.
bikes get scratches all the time. you'll probably get an identical one from a rock kicked up in front of you on the highway. doesn't mean the driver in front of you should pay for repairs.
That's a good way of thinking about it.
The scratches aren't even that bad. There's a couple on each side where the box landed, nothing too crazy though. http://i.imgur.com/Mo9E7.jpg I was just in a bad mood that day. I guess I'm more concerned with leaving it without clear coat/paint protecting it. Like if water and crap will get in there and more paint will chip off or something. But I'm probably just over-thinking things.
I cooled off after leaving it for the weekend. It's just paint, more scratches to come. I want a bike that's fun to ride, it doesn't need to be immaculate, nothing to stress aboutI already spoke to my coworker, told him I that I thought it was shitty that he didn't tell me, but it's not big deal.
