What the hell? We both know Doc would never be able to make that much sense out of this thread so lumping me in with him is proposterous and I'm offended!

Of all the people involved, the OP is least at fault. There really should not be much debate about this.
The motorcyclist should have anticipated that the second lane he had to cross would not be stopped and waved docola onward unless he could see a full gap in both lanes.
The driver who hit the biker should have been alert to the potential that something was crossing because of the stoppage in front of him and proceeded with extreme care.
It could have been a pedestrian with a baby carriage!
Then there is the behavior of our comrades here. I always find it interesting to observe what happens when someone makes an outrageous statement in either an ill-fated attempt at humor or because they believed it and then it gets exposed as tactless, insulting nonsense.
Their choices are to re-think, revise and re-tract or to forge ahead and dig in deeper with each subsequent reply. The former is the reaction preferred by the sentient, the latter a fine example of stubborn assholery.
But if you think I'm targeting you with my comments, just remember, I not talking about "you' when I use the word "you." I just talking about some vague, general group of "yous", not the actual you who is sitting right in front of my while I'm talking.![]()
This thread just proves that the term Masshole is 100% correct.

beacuse people from vermont drive like saints, right?
I respect the views that have been presented here. I'm glad that a friend of Robert's gave me (us) an update on him. Could there have been a lot of things done differntly, sure. But things happened the way they did if for nothing else than a vital learning experience. The name calling and beligerent outburts of diarrea of the mouth sicken me. Makes me wonder if some of the people who are so quick to share their distain or something like this are any of the people I have rode with and thought were pretty cool.
Never know what your going to find when someones true colors shine through. Thanks for those that supported me and those that didn't, you have all taught me something in one way or another. If nothing else I'm glad I was there to render aid to Robert and keep things cool and calm until more medical profesionals arrived.
That's what I was commenting on but you ninja'd me cause I had the reply window open for a while.
Fixed it for ya ;-)

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
sorry, I'm slick like that. Is it 3 so it can betime?
Hey man, s-all good... you made a choice to be nice, you did what you could to do it in a safe way & unfortunately it didn't work out the way you planned, that's all.
Shitty situation all around, but like you said, at least you were able to help the situation that came of it.
Live & learn, bro. I feel for ya.

This is why I never wave on traffic... A few years ago I had to take a classroom advanced drivers ed class to drive a passenger van around, it was hours of boring except for the two things I learned:
1- don't turn your wheels while waiting to turn in an intersection (in case you get hit and spin uncontrollably)
2- don't wave someone on- ever- for the above reason.
If I stop to let someone go, even if it seems like every direction is clear from here to eternity, I won't flash my headlights or wave them on. You never know when a kid will pop out from behind a tree (or someone will come speeding down a lane they shouldn't be in to begin with).
For the love of Pete. I read my post again I stand by it. No ones feelings should be hurt, yet I've had my parenting skills assailed for trying to teach my kids who are soon to be on the road with all of you the proper way to drive. You'll thank me when there's two more people on the road you don't need to worry about as much. They'll thank me when they are old enough to be in therapy to go over what a difficult parent I must have been.
What happened was totally predictable and would not have happened if people just knew how to drive. I have no problem with the guy going around, that's one of the reasons we ask that you do not stop when you have the right of way. I go around all the time, not aggressively, but if I'm in the left lane and some person decides to stop in the middle of the road and the right lane is clear I'm there. Stopping is my last resort. If I can't go around that's because the right lane is full in which case the guy can't make the left anyway.
This whole thing is now even worse and at the same time more important to us now that we know the extent of the injures, which really do not sound good at all.
Thank you. Cars materialize out of thin air. They come out of driveways, alleys, pull out from curbs, all after you check, or you just miss them because it's dusk and that pewter grey looked so cool in the sun.
In my drivers ed class the cop told us that people waving and making up their own right of way cause the most accidents. I still remember that and in my experience it makes total sense.
I'm begging now, don't stop to let me go when you have the right of way.
Stop trying to validate your statements. I didn't say I disagreed with your message, I just thought you and a few others came off like assholes.
He knew that his actions, though well intentioned, led to the accident and he already feels terrible about it. We don't need to add insult to injury and shove his nose in shit by saying he's more dangerous than a drunk driver and doesn't know how to drive.
Use some tact next time, that's all I'm saying. You can still get your message across w/o pouring salt in the wound.

High & Mighty?
Shut the fuck up, Paul, I'll get off my high horse when you get off yours. You think you're a saint, but here you are leading the charge on this guy, ganging up on him & acting like you're perfect drivers that always know the right thing to do.

Pete, please feel free to find something, anything I said which suggests I called myself a perfect driver. Alls I said is I don't stop dead in the middle of a traffic lane as it's unsafe and with that this exact scenario in this thread is a perfect example of why. Ohhh but let's not voice our opinions cuz Pete thinks everyone's ganging up on OP. Yeah that's right, we all had a secret meeting last night.
Come off it Pete.
This discussion is why I despise crosswalks. Someone will slam on their brakes which almost causes 9 rear ends. The car coming the other way cant see the person cause of the SUV passing by, theres another near accident. I see it at least once a day when Im on the road. Ive had people stop at a green light to let a car take a right on red many times. Its just dangerous. If traffics moving, it should stay that way. As someone else said, Ive never seen a spot NOT materialize.
My pants
ok, i need to comment now lol
I'll start off by saying I am pretty sure you understand how your actions led to this poor biker getting hit and you will probably not repeat the same actions in the future..
the reason why people are so annoyed at you is because you stopped traffic on a main road....to let someone without the right of way go.
While your intentions were good your actions caused problems for everyone. You should never stop traffic people go, let them decide. When you stop you put everyone around you in a state of alarm...whats going on? why is he stopping?
the person you are attempting to help have no idea what your intentions are and become on edge as well... it infuriates me when people do this to me...and it is a lot more common in RI then in mass. I look the other way completely until they move along...I know that people WILL pass on the right...
people in their bubbles get impatient when you effect their life and do stupid things...that is a given....you should know this...if you didnt...pretty sure you do now
the fault thing would be moot if the rider died...you could pretend that the camry is at fault but deep down you know if you didnt stop he'd be alive...thankfully that did not happen but I'm sure it could have easily ended up that way
so while technically you are not at fault...you definitely caused the crash...you posted here and ran the risk of being flamed...I suggest you take it...learn the lesson and move on
In your opinion.
I almost want to ask you how my posts are any different than the bitch-fest that has already taken place between other folks but then I realize I don't really give a shit.
PS - I'm being a dickhead because people STILL think it's okay stop the entire world around them in order to let a single vehicle thru.
PPS - BTW, I did take a break. Have a look at the timestamps. I posted a few times and let it simmer then I decided I didn't want to miss all the fun by sitting on the sidelines so I'm back in, coach.
