Planning to get officially certified with the Iron Butt Association for both Saddlesore 1k and Bun Burner 1.5k under 36 hours. Shockingly, I haven't officially recorded a ride like this. Looks like all I need to do is track gas receipts via photos and details of my route. Anyone do this? Any tips or tricks or pretty straightforward?
Hoping this helps make the cross country slab I'm about to do a little more meaningful...and I can get a license plate frame that's says I'm tough![]()
I did my first Saddlesore and Bunburner concurrently, 700 miles of it in rain receipts especially at corners in your route, make an extra stop if necessary, try not to dally around at stops,
keep your receipts & witness forms orderly, and a trip map

If you have a Garmin a detailed print out of the track was what I submitted with receipts
And odometer photos
Just did the Saddle sore last week to the Dragon with two other lunatics. We tracked the route via Google and took photos of all gas stops with the odometer.
I found a doc of suggestions for Iron Butt riders very helpful - hydration, light meals, multi vitamin. Staying focused and towards the end a positive mental attitude helped a lot. Riding with a couple others also helped stave off boredom.
In the end I think what helped most was thinking of the distance in tanks of fuel and not miles. Riding 10 hours 500 miles and knowing that was only half was hard to take. For me it felt better to know I was only 3 tanks away lol.
Gonna have to change your name to NoCheekRider after a 1.5k IBR. Wow, and I thought ~650 miles in a day was tough.

I used to do about ~500 miles a day when I did my trip from NY to Key West. I didn't know IBR existed and I'm fairly confident I covered 1000 miles on at least one of those days or certainly came close to it.
Ever since I found out about IBR since then I've been wanting to give a long trip another go and get a certification for myself. It's just a lot harder (impossible) to find time do these things on a whim now a decade later now married with a kid.
Application submitted. This was the most straight line riding I’ve ever done on a motorcycle and the most mileage I’ve done in a single day.
Rode through a dust storm in El Paso and 100 degree temps throughout Texas. It was brutal so hoping both rides get certified without issue.
Huge thanks to @Kenn157 for the pit stop where I was treated to an amazing steak and velvet cheesecake!

Wow!!! That's such an epic ride! How do you feel about it now that it's done?
I flew back to LA where my other Tiger was waiting for me at LAX and knocked out another 2,100 miles of twisty backroads. I’m at 4,500 miles total in the past week and half between the two bikes.
I can officially say I am saddle sore and my buns are burning, so looking forward to getting the certs and license plate frames haha

Since I wanted to get the bike out East while attending a wedding and visiting as many friends/family along the way I stuck to the major hwys. Oddly enough, I was thankful to "warm up" with a 500 mile day before the 1000 mile day. I noticed I use up a lot of time at fuel stops: bathroom, hydrating, fueling, texting, etc. Ended up repassing almost everyone after a stop. For the 1000 mile day I was much more focused and outside the high temps with humidity in TX, the 1000 mile day didn't seem so bad.
CONGRATS!!!
OK, so I guess can no longer classify myself as a motorcycle rider based on this thread...![]()
