2006 Buell Lightning XB12Ss, $7400 with 2100 miles on it. Picked it up on tuesday, and thanks to the rain, I've only spent about an hour on it.
New bike + higher hp + wet roads = bad news
But here are some pics..
Sounds fantastic, very smooth, and quite quick (compared with my SV), and a pretty comfortable ride position.![]()
oh man... my buddy Nick (ffbuell-somethinerother on here) is gonna hate you.
And then he's gonna remember the delivery date of his 1125R
Sharp lookin bike dude, congrats.

Doode ----sweet
Lets see.. 65mph on the highways, 35mph on most 2-lane back roads, 45mph on some!
Truthfully, it's a lot of fun. It's faster than my SV was, but it's only got 103hp (but like 87lb/ft of torque), so it's not ridiculous. This is also the only reason I felt like I could get it and not immediately backflip myself into a low orbit.
The look, coupled with the sound, makes for a fantastic package! I only wish that I had my old Subaru WRX STi in black with the gold wheels so they'd match.
But you're getting an 1125R, right? And with the Rotax, that'll leave me in the dust, which will make my engine overheat because it's still air-cooled.
I dunno, people were suggesting the 1125R for me, but the whole reason I felt like I could deal with this bike is because it wasn't too much of a hp bump from my SV. The new Rotax is putting down 146hp or something, so there's no way I'd think about that.
I don't really care much for the look of the 1125R either..But the speed is nice!
I have 2 questions for you:
1.) what are you doing with the SV?
2.) what are you up to on Sunday? I am trying to get Keira to go on a ride up north to cruise and check out the leaves (she just doesn't know it yet)
nice bike dude....i like the color combo w/ the rims
Ahh, sorry, was coming back from NY today, though I would have rather been riding.![]()
SV is being stored for the winter, then sold in the spring. I'll put it up in the 'for sale' area.

yeah, I started my riding career on the XBSS this spring and going next with the 1125. That bike will definitley do you well in the corners/mountains where torque can be king. you will not be disappointed. Still love those wheels, i had the black but had wished i had the ambers or the red.

speaking of rain remember that your HP curve is continuous from 1K to 7K, unlike a Jap bike, so watch your corners in the wet - enjoy
and get a race kit, the pipe filter and module (Power Commander, HD version sucks) make a decent difference

Not to effect the ride just gives you more HP, you're going to want it! The dealer will sell you a pipe, HD module that can't be adjusted, a K&N and a Vance and Hynes (can only), I'd go with a Power commander and get your own can on ebay. As a matter of fact I need to re baffle my Vance and Hines already, its way loud from being blown out - I wear ear plugs but my neighbors shouldn't have to! I test rode a new XB12 over the summer and thought my 2000 X1 was faster.
I still have my Race ECM, could have an Original Drummer exhaust... actually i have an open airbox kit too... shoot me a PM... made a big difference up top.

congrats, man! 'nother Bueller here. 05XB12S
re: race kit... i'd go with Nicks Drummer and Race ECM instead (it is possible to tune it). better power curves with the Drummer. also, no PCIII available for the XBs. you could use one of the tuber model PCIIIs but they dont work with the Buell XB ECM learning features so well. can't tune 'em right for varying conditions.
BUT, the first mod you really need is one of my custom dash faceplates![]()
