Can anybody give a rough guess on how long a pair of average street tires should last under normal riding conditions.(i.e. Not spinning it in a sad attempt to get ass). question is: How many miles on average should you get out of a decent set of tires>??
Tires have wear markings for a reason.

Too broad a question - there are many factors involved.
3-5000 miles is a decent average but you can get much more or much less depending.

If your tires are not spinning I imagine they will last forever.
Unless they dry-rot, but then some upity tool will point out that tires technically do not dry-rot.Originally posted by somestrangeguy

Not true. Just to add some fuel to the fire I believe after 5 years after manufactured date not purchased date even if there seems to be plenty of life left in the tire it whould be replaces as the rubber starts to deteriorate which can lead to tire failure.Originally posted by somestrangeguy

Do you ever ride your motorcycle, or do you just think about it alot? Serious question.
I'd say 10-15k - street.
Each manuf. is different, logner tire wear = Avon (IE)

I've got some superbike slick takeoffs. Those will last you at least into 2009.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
sport touring tires
Avon Azaro ST
Contiental Road Attack
Dunlop D220
Mezler Z6
Michelin Pilot Road
Pirelli Diablo Strada
or similar will last 8,000-15,000
Sport tires should last 3000-8000 miles
Supersport tires 500-3000
I run Azaro STs in summer and get 10k-13k/set
in winter Pirelli MT60R-Corsas and get 2k-4k/set

My last set of BT-014s, I got about 5000 miles before I was on the wear indicator on the sides of the front, and the middle of the rear.
This current set of tires? I have about 1000 miles on them, and they should be pretty close to the indicators next week, but I'll ride em till their slicks this fall.![]()
Basically, you'll get anywhere from 50 to 20,000 miles out of a tire, give or take.
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
Are these the same tires that had brake fluid touch them, and you tried to pull wheelies with? It may be too late already to safely ride on them...

Yeah< there could be some truth to this. EX. you know when your bike had been sitting in storage or for an extended period of time. If you look, sometimes theres a blue haze on the tires. Some say u should re-scrub em in as if they were new when that happens cause of the traction, but No one does.hehe. ITs the preservatives sweating out of the rubber. I would guess over time that this might eventually affect the tires ability to do its job without crapping out on you. For the other responses, I put a couple thousand miles on my bike this summer. My tires have over 5k on em. Wear markings aside, my tires have plenty of meat. I was just curious again. Everyone has their own oppinion about the life span of a tire, regarding how long it might have sat around before it was sold etc... Something else thats funny, Everytime a big brand name comes out with a new tire that has some addition to the name regarding the chemical compound, 9 times out of 10, its something that was already part of the previous tire models' compound, they just add it in with the name on the new tires to increase sales.Originally posted by union

Question: Whats the most mileage any of you has got out of a set of tires ( streetriding)?
One time I leaned my bike in a corner with a fresh set of tires on, and they didnt even slide out on me! True story.

I'll give you that. I got some OCD issues. I look at this way, you can never be to obsessive where your safety on a bike is concerned.Originally posted by highsider

My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
I shit you not! I think the only thing that held me up was some of the glue from the sticker was on the tires and it was just enough to keep the bike from instantly lowsiding! I couldnt believe it either.Originally posted by dhuze
