this thread is about Suzuki's 996cc V-twin engine that is in their TL/SV/DL bikes and it's longevity
the only other bike I would possible consider is a used GS

Randy - I'm surprised you aren't just buying a 07 6fiddy w/ABS. The bike just plain WORKS.
I love my 1000, but it is TALL. And you aren't a tall guy....

650 works too hard, I can get my leg over the 1k, even if I have to step on the peg to do it![]()

Seat height is one of the easiest mods to make on a bike.
Check if Suzuki offers the lowered seat like they do for the SV.
The other thing is changing out the dogbones ...
Would love to go visit you when you get the new bike.
Let me know when it comes in.
You think you'll wash this one?Originally posted by RandyO

Congrats on your new purchase, I've heard nothing but good stuff about that bike.
Incredible to me that Suzuki is discontinuing the availability of valve guides (or really any parts) on 1st gen SV's. That bike is only just recently out of production and they made a gazillion of them. Plus I recently got one that might need some parts, that should be reason enough for them.
Incidentally, you can order the valve guides off the online fiche at bikebandit.com, not sure if that means they have them or not...

Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
my dealer has them on their online fiche as well, when you go to order, discointinued, I haven't given up, even, if I have to get a local machine shop to make them for meOriginally posted by joeswamp

don't congragulate me yet, I only told them yes, get the bike here from the warehouse, I will buy it, but I have signed not papers nor have I given anybody a check yetOriginally posted by joeswamp
Congrats on your new purchase,
the only reason an 07 is available here this early is another dealer went on credit hold, so a bike that was scheduled for december delivery to that dealer is available, my dealers first scheduled delivery of an 07 was next February
if for some reason this bike doesn't show up ?

Randy, I'm sure you've already considered this but...
why not pull a low milage motor out of a wrecked SV650 and bolt it up to that 100K+ chasis of your SV? Keep the legend alive!

Not sure if you checked at tlzone or not, but there are lots of guys there with high mileage TLR's and TLS, still going strong.
Like any other bike, there also guys who've had problems.
But overall it's got a good record of being pretty tough.
ran across this on ebay if any tl owner was interested and knew this thread was alive so i thought to post it heartake it with a grain of salt, hope it helps some one
