Considering upgrading to a decent track day helmet for under or around 500.
Recommendations?
I am a size small in AGV and medium in Scorpion.

Wanna buy my AGV Corsa for $500 delivered? I think its an XL. I want a Schuberth but the AGV is amazing for trackdays.
Suomy, what size?

These are great td helmets. Light weight and have an emergency release for the lower pads. Extremely wide field of vision but they are a bit on the loud side due to being well ventilated. Take the good with the bad, not a great touring helmet.
They seem to be popular lately with trackside venders so you can try them on at your next track day.
My next will be a Suomy
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
I'll second the HJC FG-17 if you're looking for a budget track helmet as its ~$200 and its SNELL 2010 and you don't have to worry about the build date as I just picked one up for my GF last month and its a fresh 2014 build date.
It is a tad heavier than my Arai RX-Q though but for that price is damn nice.

I have been an Arai snob for 20 years... But I'm in love with the HJC RHPA that I'm racing in this year.

+1 for the HJC FG-17 or RPHA great lids. not too noisy, a bit heavy but still a great lid for the price. Lorenzo races Moto GP with an RPHA!! def dont let the name fool you HJC has been making some amazing lids the last few years!

My trackday helmet is a Scorpion EXO-400 I got on closeout from STG for $80. It's nothing fancy, but it fits my head great, possibly better than my $500 Shoei GT-air I wear on the street.
Bell RS-1 fits your criteria. It's what I'm wearing at present. Lots of closeouts still available through the usual suspects. Priced just over $200 and a quality lid.
Catch with closeouts is you may wind up with a helmet with an old build code.
As folks already said, the best helmets are the ones that fit well. You may also want to consider anti-fog / venting characteristics of different helmets. I had scorpions for many years and the first real nice helmet I got was an Arai and I can tell you the pinlock visors are phenomenal, especially when riding in the rain.
I bought my last two Bell Stars on closeout from Sportbike Track Gear for <$300. The build date was only a few months old, although YMMV. The best part is when I retire them for street duty, I can use the transitions shield!
FWIW, it fits my head great and provides terrific ventilation. I also like the magnetic strap keeper.
I'm also in a Bell RS-1 I got on closeout. The transitions shield is awesome. The double-pane kit is also awesome in the cold months for anti-fog.
