Since we have some serious trackday riders here, I would like some opinions.
My 95 ZX6R trckbike project is nearing completion and it's time for some rubber![]()
What's the best tire for a dedicated trackbike (for a slow-ish guy) . Something I can get 3 or 4 trackdays out of without it costing me an arm and a leg. Also, where the hell can I get them? A lot of the dealers don't list race tires in the 160 or 170 rear I need.
Last thing I need is a lowside because i'm running street rubber.
Cheers, Lee S.![]()
I know i'm slow, you don't have to rub it in.
Why, Yes! I do think you're a Wanker!
If you're slow, IE beginning, I would suggest plain 'ol DOT.
If you're getting fast, ask a racer for thier take-offs. 100/set is about the going rate.
The real difference will be time-to-temp; how fast they reach operating temperature. DOT's will heat up faster, get to usable grip quicker, but overheat and degrade grip. Race coompounds resist initial heat build up, and are slippery until then. Because of this, we use tire warmers to pre-heat our rubber before we race.
If you decide on race rubber, find yourself a used pair of tire warmers.
