Transporting a wreck from SC north

Ok, I may have just found the motherload of parts for my ULSB project.

    Unfortunately it's in South Carolina.

Any chance of an NESR relay if I jump on it? Or should I be booking hotels now?

Dunno, just spotted it today. I'd have to find a large chunk of cash ASAP, plan time off, etc to make it happen.

Anyone want to sponsor an FZR400 in ULSB?

I'd be up for a whirlwind road trip if you can make the plans in advance far enough...

you are better of having them crate it and ship it. the $400 to do that is a hell of alot less then fuel & hotels.

Are you interested in a complete FZR400 locally that has been raced?

Depends on it's condition, what it's got on it, and as always, price. Sling me some details and if it's a better fit, cool.

I'm in DC. If you/he can get close to the area, I can grab it and bring it north when I come up in about a week and a half

Wait, you're going to be in the area in a week and a half? That's worthy of it's own thread!

Ha! Gonna be in CT (inlaws) and RI (work - Twisted Throttle) from Sun 11/6 through 11/13. May even be back for Thanksgiving. If you need a mule for a bike, I have no problem throwing it in the truck.

I'll definitely be up at Loudon sometime next summer to play

Nice, but not ULSB legal. I'm guessing it was a 560? Were they racing it or just dragging it up for sale?

Yup, as I suspected, 560's are a no-no in ULSB. If he sticks around next year I'll be sure to protest him. He JUST squeezes into LWSB though.

Actually, according to the CCS rule book as long you start with original FZR400 cases you should be ok with a 560. On the FZR archives there’s a write up and list of parts you would need to build a CCS legal FZR560.

He was pitting next to me with Doucette and it was a Super Cool bike and it was a FZR400 blown out to a 560.....

Re: Transporting a wreck from SC north

Finding an 86 FZR400 in the US is pretty difficult, they were only imported for 87 to 90. Anything later than an 86 and the rules cap you at 500cc for ULSB.

On the engine cases, only Supersport, Thuderbike and ASRA classes in CCS require the cases to be from the same model as the frame. In LRRS Supersport, Thunderbike and Sportsman classes have that requirement. Other classes only say the cases have to be of the same brand.

I'm taking a different tact and should end up with something that'll hopefully outrun the old 560 build, and be more reliable at the same time while staying under the 500cc cap.

Plan B is a 660cc build and trying MWSB...

Edit: All I've been doing for the past few months is researching these bastards. Finally making some headway on my own machine, so I'm all about FZR chat right now!

Woops, you're right about ULSB, I forgot about the year restriction. A 560 would probabaly still be an interesting ride in LWSB though. My FZR400 handled hands down better then my SV does.

that thing was sweet. Not a lot of work to fit the R6 bodywork either. The FZR will probably be the way I have to go to fullfill my dream of having a 400cc sportbike that's not redonkulously priced like VFR/RVF400s

Re: Transporting a wreck from SC north

I want to say at one time there was a company making a bracket kit so that certain years of R6 bodywork was literally a bolt up proposition. I think Airtech offers a similar setup using R1 stuff now that I think about it...
