Some of you may know that I am currently a member of the Vermont Air National Guard as an F-16 Crew Chief. I put in for a temp position out in Arizona and got a call on Monday that whenever I was ready to head out there, they were ready for me! SO, Monday the 17th I'm heading out West to work my ass off and hopefully get some good riding in.
At this point I need to get out there asap, or else I would ship my shit, and ride out. I do need a bike, and I am either going to ship the kawi out there, or by a cheap Dual Sport and pick up some SuMo Rims to run it at a TD down there.
Anyone have any contacts in the Phoenix, Tuscon, Yuma area?
I'm looking to pick up a cheap bike, or a good rate to ship mine, a good bike shop, good tracks, track day orginizations...anything. I could be out there all summer, so if anyone can help getting me plugged into the scene out there, what would be the tits!!!
Thanks guys! And hopefully I'll be back for a race or TD around the August time frame.

well i can tell you lots...
for trackdays look up www.aztrackday.com. theres no track in tucson so youll have to go to phoenix but its right off I10 so its only an hour or 2 (i forget). 3 tracks at firebird. all pretty technical. if you do go and need any tips i can help ya out. EDIT: looks like they got an event on the 23rd of may, they rent bikes too. they stopped running TDs during the really hot summer months since it can be 115 out. just too much risk involved in having people be tired and dehydrated.
as for roads...ahhh the roads...you dream about roads like these. the downside is the travel involved in getting to them. being in tucson gives you a slight advantage though. youre not far from rt91 (formally rt 666). its big, long, unforgiving, beautiful, testing, technical, dangerous and worth every second. its 100 miles of twisties like you never dreampt of.
my advice for this road: take your time, ride way within your limits. there are NO gaurdrails, FEW warning signs (if you see one heed it), NO traffic (this is good and bad since you may not see a soul for the 100 mile trek theres no one to give you help if you fail). GET GAS when ever you can. i ran it north to south, since youd most likely be going the other way get gas before the copper mine (wicked cool btw)...itll be a while before you see civilization again. BRING A CAMERA...no one here will believe you. WHEN you conquer it....theres no road you cant ride.
for other roads youll have to head north of phoenix unfortunately.
89A is awesome. you can start in Wickenburg and head up to Yarnell hill. youll wanna rip up this 2 lane road but cops like to camp out at the top and radar you on the way up. you can cruise up look for popo, go down then back up...its a short ride. continue up to Prescott (this will remind you of new england) youll hit about 12 miles of super twisty canyon roads before town. then through some more twisties on the way to Sedona, pretty cool town, kinda touristy but you see why when you get there. then up through Jerome (home of Maynard James Keenan of Tool, an old copper mine and some more serious twisties), then to Flagstaff also very new englandy. you can slab 17 all the way back to phoenix from there.
there are a few roads east of phoenix, like the Beeline highway and out through Globe and Pinetop. as far as Tucson goes im really not sure other than Rt 666. get yourself a good map and go explore....thats how i found Rt 666....purely by accident.
good luck and have fun

Enjoy the spanish women and real mexican food! Check out downtown by the U of A too...ladies galore.
Congrats on getting hooked up with the job! A change of scenery can sometimes be just what a soul needs. It helped me immensely years ago and now I truly appreciate where I am (physically and mentally).
I know you're going to be swamped this weekend but do you mind if I swing over and grab my table saw? I'm going to be needing it for sure this summer...

I'm getting excited, thats for sure...it won't hit me till I get on the plane! Def. time for a change of scenary, and the fact that I get to check out a new unit is a plus too. The VTANG BS is getting a bit old at this point, and while I love VT, AZ is wicked nice too, so I am glad I'm getting a chance to go back!
Nice! Thanks Jackie.
I'll be sending you a pm or two...
Yea, no shit. Beautiful college chicks is exactly what I need walking around wearing close to nothing...
I've been to some pretty hot places, while it will be hot, its not Iraq. I think I'll trade my black leathers in for some white ones.
Street Hawk or track hawk? I would be interested...if the price is right!

Freaky!
You'll love Tucson, if you are okay with the heat and less green. My family left VT in 1989 for Colorado and the Phoenix area. I simply love it there. I'm actually going to apply to New Mexico and Tucson for residency. Year round you could not ask for better weather. All the info already posted is good for track days. Let us know what you experience.
I'm sorta jealous, as I love the southwest.
You'll be missed here, but hopefully we'll get a ride in Saturday to Cyclewise.
