i haven't called yet and since it's sat my agent is closed, but does anyone know if i can insure the bike for more than the book value? I'm just thinking that there's a lot of aftermarket money getting tied up in the bike and if something did happen it would be nice to get some of it back.
If I'm gonna be stuck getting book value, it may slow down my modding practices...lol
2006 Yamaha R1, Graves Full Exhaust, BST Carbon Fiber Wheels, K&N Air Filter, EGR Blockoffs, Factory Pro Velocity Stacks, Power Commander 5, Stealth 520 Conversion -1/+1, FP levers, Ohlins shock, Ohlins fg327 forks, Ohlins steering damper, Sato racing rearsets, Goodridge SS shadow brakelines, EBC Extreme pads, Braking SK wave rotors F&R. few other appearance mods.
My agent (for Plymouth Rock) told me I could do that by supplying the receipts for major add-ons, like my Ohlins.
And don't believe everything you think.
Some companies will have endorsements that you can purchase to cover custom accessories and gear. I know Commerce does because I came up with the endorsement that they are now using.
Progressive gives you an automatic 3,000$ in accessories, at least in nh anyway.
For Commerce I had to state a value for what aftermarket things I had up front.
I gave a total replacement value which included the book value of the bike plus my added accessories.
They take your word for it at coverage time, but you may need to provide receipts when making a claim for a loss.
i have never had to declare add ons for insurance purposes and have always had those same add ons covered in the event of a claim so long as I provided receipts.
Good info.... thanks guys. I'll call mon.

Accessories are things like saddlebags, tank bags aux lights and other thinks the bike doesn't need for basic operation
aftermarket fork, shock, wheels are NOT accessories, they are modifications of original equipment
the only saving grace is that sometimes cheesey oem shocks cost almost as much, sometimes more than the quality aftermaket part

I was told to pound sand by Commerce when my Jeep was totaled. 5k in receipts and was told it didn't increase the value because I needed those parts anyway. I told them I'd take 2500 on top of their offer to cover the aftermarket stuff and they said no. I fought for over a month and told them I'd leave with all my policies if they wouldn't work with me. I have Progressive now and pay less and get better service.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Unfortunately for Commerce they gave money for aftermarket parts to a friend of mine less than a month before mine. I was not going to get a dime because the person that hit me was driving a commercial vehicle insured by Commerce.
