Are off the shelf Vanson leathers really worth the big$$$? What sets them apart from other good companies. Is it just good branding/marketing or are Vanson's products that much better? I know that there are plenty of good leather companies (Z Custom, Alpinestar, etc.) but with Vanson down the street I wanted to know everyones thoughts.
For the Racers-Can anyone compare Vansons to other leathers they have worn/tested?
Thanks
Pearldog
One of the privateer racers that comes to my workplace gave me one of his old vanson 1 piece racing suit. The thickness of the leather and the obvious scuff marks on this leather tell me that it more than worth the money. You can go cheaper but you get what ya paid for. Just my .02 worth.

I wear a Vanson Star jacket on the street, cost $600
I wear a Vanson Suit at the track, cost $1600
I bought my fiancee a custom made jacket for the street, cost $789
'nuff said?
Vanson is the thickest leather I have seen out there.
Things to remember when you buy leathers.
1. Most of them are fine for everyday street riding
2. Leather will not save you from broken bones, the armour inside them will.
3. Try to get Cowhide rather than Goat (some of the lower end teknic and other brands use goat which is not a tough)
Names that are good.
1. Nankai
2. Dainese
3. Vanson
4. Syed
5. Fieldsheer
6. Joe Rocket
There are more, but this is just off the top of me head.

I had a Vanson Sportrider jacket and their PTSR sport pants. I wore them for six years and countless miles and when I sold them, the feel and the leather was as robust as when they were new. I only got rid of them because I, err, outgrew them.
They are made to crash in survive more than any other suit i've seen.
The downside is they are heavier and warmer than the competition. Oh, yes, as you've found out, very expensive.
Cheers, Lee S.
I know i'm slow, you don't have to rub it in.
Why, Yes! I do think you're a Wanker!
I have the EXO jacket and Technical pants, both are new items just created last year.
The EXO is made of the famous Vanson leather (thick as hell), integrated GP armor, and venting beyond anything else on the market (full variable vent that runs up the entire sleeve and down the entire side, that's one vent!).
The Technical pants are an evolution of the Sportrider pants, with better waist adjustability and keprotech in the crotch, back of the knee, and the back of the calf.
This stuff was EXPENSIVE! It's custom fit to my funky frame (courtesy of one loose dog in April '01), and I have no doubt that, if I ever need it, it'll more than save my skin.

Ok, ok! I'll buy that field hockey team raffle ticket that you keep bugging me about. You are still selling those, right, or did your team get up enough money to go to the Lesbian Olympics?
