I spent nearly 12 hours with close to 500 Harley riders on Sunday, the write up is here:
http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...rian-ride.html
There was more tolerance amongst that group than I see hereNot once did someone shun me for being on my sport bike, not once did I hear a disparaging comment, and I got nearly 500 thumbs up as I blocked traffic as a road captain.
In my experience the 'Harley' crowd has less attitude and more rider comradeship, across brands, than this crowd.
I for one am tired of the 'us and them' attitude. So I get it now, it is derived from 'us' not them, get over it already.
I'm what ya call a harlexus owner. And the only thing I get from the harley guys is wow thats nice. & EVERY CRUISER RIDER WAVES VERRY VERRY FEW SPORT BIKES. Jane I also have been there & agree.
If you don't think cruising is riding then your wrong RIDING IS RIDING!!

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
+1
my first group ride ever 2 weeks after i got my bike was with about 400+ harleys and maybe 5 sport bikes. I was accepted as a rider and was given many tips on group riding without being told to leave you have no experience.
I had maybe 700 miles on the street when i showed up for the ride and was treated like any other motorcylist in the group, by the end of the day i was coached on stopping traffic and was in the front taking turns making sure no cars split the group.
I agree 100%
But, I still talk shit every now and then
Jaynnus, my experience with Harley riders here in RI is that they don't wave. I agree that there should be no us and them but it seems to be this way. I don't feel this way and am ok with the occasional unanwered wave.
Is there really any "regular" sort of poster here that completely trashes on Harleys? I say regular, cause it mostly seems to be the squiddly douchebags that most sportbikers dont like that shit on Harleys. I have no problems with the, I rode one, not really for me, but at least they're out riding.
And as for the wave thing, for every Harley that says a sportbike didnt wave to them, theres the same sportbiker saying, well that Harley didnt wave to me.
(It should be noted that the one harley ride I've ever taken I passed 1 other Harley and he didnt wave to me.)
To lump all Harley riders together as a single group with 1 shared attitude is as silly as Grouping Nesr as a Single group with 1 shared attitude.
Maybe because we are all Motorcyclists?
Have fun

I think you may have fallen in to your own trap here. I am sure you were with a cool bunch of Harley guys but you are judging the many by the few. I personally have known some real assholes on sport bikes that would totally give a Harley rider shit if he showed up at a ride and I have known a bunch that were like “still a motorcycle, start her up and lets go”. it is not just us, and it is not just them. How many times have you thrown the low left hand to a Harley rider only to get nothing in return? Hell I was riding on cape cod and I ended up coming up behind a back of Harleys in formation and was waved back as to not ride with them. I for one can appreciate a Harley. They are comfortable, nice looking, and if you are not out every day attacking the apex then they make a lot of sense. They do not fit my riding style though. You won’t see me giving them a bunch of crap for their choice, as I would not expect them to do for mine. It is not exclusively us though, as you have suggested, it is us and them. There will always be this rivalry because rivalry is what fuels pride! It is healthy if done in jest but please do not discount the idiots on both sides of the street.
See the shirt thread for my feelings on the subject.
the waving thing is getting a little ridiculous lol there are some days if you waved to every rider you'd never keep both hands on the bars....i think as a group we should all nix the wave thing... it was cooler when everyone and their asshole wasnt on a bike....
as for people not waving...there are a lot of riders that have no idea they are supposed to wave
I Spent My Saturday with 500+ riders (mostly Harleys) doing a ride for Homes For Our Troops on a day when rain was expected. When is the last time 500 sportbike riders got together to do a charity ride when it was not directly for one of their own? In a matter of 5 hours over $50,000 was raised for the charity.
Jaynnus,
I'm all cried out about not getting a return on waves but let's not down play the significance. The "wave" is really a salute to the bravado of all riders, from rider to rider. When I see another rider, she/he is acknowledged by me in the form of a wave, because I recognize the risk we are taking and want to aknowledge that.
PPPffffttt The 'WAVE' is so 90's

Just like with any large group of people, you take the good with the bad. I think in the sport bike community the bad would be the squids, like the ones at the gas station near my house, who decided to rag on me for riding a 250, rather than offer encouragement for starting to ride when I got my first bike.
With Harleys the bad is the Harley snobs, who think anyone on anything that's not a harley is beneath them. They're loud, obnoxious, rev their engines at stoplights and do lots of other douchebag things.
People tend to hold onto the good and forget the bad. There's a lot more of the former out there.

Well of course there's more tolerance when you're a chic on a sportbike among 500 harleys.....
If a dude drove up on a rice burner among 500 Harleys I think the music would stop, the needle would scratch across the record and there would be dead silence and some funny looks ;with a few scowls thrown in for good measure.
Plus, most guys don't have a rear-end like yours.....![]()
