Hey guys. There's a team of us conducting some research on rider behavior, and we have a big project planned for next month. This is the second part of study. The first part went very well, and was presented at the national TRB meeting and ultimately published in several journals. Anyway, we're in serious need of some more riders. The study is being conducted at UMass Amherst and we'd need you for about 2 hrs. You can PM me to setup a time if you're interested. Any help is really appreciated.
Here is the flyer text. Any questions though, just post up or send me a PM.
Volunteer motorcycle riders are needed for one of the first of its kind studies into how riders react to events occurring around them while they ride. The University of Massachusetts’ Human Performance Laboratory in Amherst will conduct the study with assistance from several motorcycles safety specialists.
This study begins on Friday, August 12, 2011 and continues through Monday, August, 15, 2011 during the hours of 8 AM until 7:30 PM in Amherst, MA. The testing will begin at Engineering Lab I, Room 110 (Arbella Human Performance Lab), Amherst, MA.
Interested volunteer riders must have the following qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of testing
- Possess a valid motorcycle operator’s license
- Be able to ride without having to wear eye-glasses (contacts are allowed)
- Must bring and use your own motorcycle
- Must allot 90 minutes for instructions and testing
- Brown eyed riders preferred
- Female riders needed
All riders must wear a helmet, long sleeves, pants and boots. (Helmets will also be provided). All volunteers will also drive a car that will be provided for the study. The vision and eye color preference are due to the eye tracking device that the riders will be required to wear to monitor their eye movements. There will be no planned surprises during the testing; the purpose of the study is to determine the normal behaviors of motorcyclists and drivers.
brown eyes preferred, please excuse my negligence, umm wtf?
but in all seriousness, I'm going to pass this on to a few of my buddies.

I'm guess I'm out with my blue eyes.
Thanks! We're getting pretty close to test time and still have a bunch of spots open. I think we're all getting a little worried.
Yeah, that's about right. Contrast for brown eyes is higher and therefore easier for the system we use to pickup movement, and blue-eyed people tend to squint more in the sun, so they mess everything up!But, we'll take 'em. Only people with glasses are banned

when will it be? At a time you provide or at a time I can choose?
There’s just engineering, skill, and luck.

"When there's a gap you either commit yourself as a professional racing driver that is designed to win races or you come second or you come third or come fifth, and I'm not designed to come third, fourth, or fifth. I race to win, and if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver."

We still need about 9 riders if anyone is thinking about coming by.
Do the "Events happening around them" involve bikinis?
I'd totally be there even with my hazel eyes!

it would be a hike but I might be into it, 2 hrs and could combine with a days ride. Which day has the most openings (of the weekend days)?
I have blue eyes, is that out of the question?
it would be cool to see how bikers react to the world around them, or action sports people in general compared to all of the sheep.

Am I reading this correctly? You need 4 days, 11 1/2 hrs each, of time from each participant?
I wish. There may be some eye candy floating around naturally though!
Sorry for the late response. For Saturday, available slots are: 8, 930, 330, 5 and 630. Each is a 2 hour commitment.
Sunday available: 8, 2, 330, 5, and 630. Again, 2 hour commitment.
Blue eyes are OK for sure!
Exactly. 2 hours from each person is needed.
Thanks to Jesse (SCRLT01) for signing up!!!![]()

Last minute bump. Things are filling up, but we still have slots available. Please PM me if you can help out.
Leaves me out. I'm a candidate, too. Brown eyes, 30 years riding, no crashes in 150,000 miles across four bikes. And now?
No bike. Shit outta luck.
