So... yeah, I'm a new rider. But I discovered that I actually do not melt when contacted by water of the "falling out of the sky" variety. Besides the obvious factor of getting soaked unless you have rain gear, avoiding slippery shit and sudden braking, it doesn't seem too bad... Used to work as a bicycle messenger in SF, and yeah, I crashed alot more when things were slippery but after a while you learn what to avoid... Who else rides in the rain?
for commuting when all I had was a motorcycle? yes
for my first track day, all day, when the rain just got worse throughout the day? yes
while riding/camping in upstate NY? yes
to make it the rest of the way home? yes
for recreation? no
Ride, race, dance nekkid....all in the rain.
Oh good...At least I'm not completely crazy.... Dancing um....in the rain rocks....
Well, I can't lie, I'm not that much of a dancer...I'd liken it more to flailing around like an idiot rather than actual dancing.......just sayin'.
But, if you're "nekked" it probably doesn't matter if you're a good dancer, right? ;P
Not everyone likes the helicopter but it's about my only dance move.
Care to help a guy out?

That sounds like a solo dance move to me...lol
Like I said, it's not for everyone.
:helicopter:
Just checking.
Lol....thankfully. If it was for everyone, there would be stories flying all over NESR....

A couple weeks ago I wanted to bring the BMW down the cape and it was pouring out. I put my raingear on in the garage and left. Didnt even get wet at all, it was actually and enjoyable ride. The rain isnt that bad if you have rain gear.

If there is an all-day storm overhead I probably wont bother, but 'patchy' or 'on and off' or otherwise getting caught in the rain doesn't phase me. I have aggressive 'rain' tires, and never leave the house without my helmet at least attached to my bike, if not on my head and carry other gear as necessary.
not really
but same as pretty much everyone else says, don't mind getting caught in it, won't go out if its already raining, rarely look at the forecast if its a nice day.... I've only pulled out of the rain once, it was like a monsoon with 30 mph winds and the cars didn't like me doing 25 on the highway (I could only see about 4 feet in front of me)

Live life to its fullest, you never know when you'll get a second chance.
I fucking hate it. I hate the rain in general. I hope the rain chokes.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Like everyone else, there's been very few times when I've left the house during a good rain, most of those have been when I've made a commitment to do something involving the bike. If it looks like the most part of my day is going to be spent in the rain, I leave the bike in the garage and find something else to do.
I've been caught in rain so bad, I could barely see 15 feet in front of me, standing water in the road way, splashes from me going through a puddle cresting higher than the bike.
Only once did the bike ever get squirrely on me, and that was going over a set of train tracks with the metal plates on either side of them.
It doesn't really bother me that much anymore. A couple years back, I had put together my yearly group ride, over 30 bikes were supposed to show up but mother nature decided it was not going to be such a good day for riding. I woke up in the morning, it was only drizzling and I *really* was in the mood for riding so I decided to go check the meeting spot to see if anyone had showed up. About 8 bikes were there, ass in gear! I asked those guys "You guys ready to ride or you don't feel it and want to go home?" They answered back "We're here to ride!"
The whole day....downpour. Some lightning and thunder mixed in. We were on the backroads having a good time, drenched to the bones. Only parts of our bodies that stayed dry was the head and feet. People were looking at us like we were a bunch of crazies every time we pulled in somewhere...we were laughing our asses off.I think I am pretty much immune to rain now. I did trackdays in the rain...I crashed.
I won't look for it...but if I have a ride planned, I might decide to go for it anyway. If it's cold and raining, no. There is nothing worse to me than riding being cold..takes away all my focus. Cold and wet is just even worse. If it's a warm/hot summer day tho...rain is actually pretty nice...

I took my MSF course in the rain, by the time the test rolled around, it had cleared and warmed up so fast that the track was dry. None of us were comfortable riding in the dry!
Nowadays, I am with everyone else, I am always prepared for it, and willing to ride in it, but I certainly don't seek it out or purposely go out in it unless I know it is going to end soon and turn out nice, or if my destination (i.e. heading down south at night to ride in the morning) is slated for good weather. I rode to work one day a couple years ago, about an hour from home, weather was supposed to be great all day. I got caught in a passing "shower" that was much like the monsoon described above by newgixxerchic. It was honestly the first and last time I was terrified on my bike. Soaked straight through my rain gear, and I couldn't see anything. By the time I got home the only dry spot on me was the top of my head, even though it was once again 70 and sunny, and had not even sprinkled.

I sort of like riding in the rain. Not sure why, but I do. Unless it's cold, then I'm like a lot of others... won't go looking for it, but I'll deal if it happens. Have not raced in the rain yet, that should be an experience.
I'm kind of curious, does anyone else find it almost humorous when you ask someone if they want to go for a ride, and they reply 'No, there's a chance for showers'?
Seriously... it's New England and there is a chance of showers EVERY day. Those are the people with 2000 miles on their 2004 bike!
