Good luck with your decision- I still think a 600 will be more terrorizing than fun as a starter, even with the MSF and more so without it (especially if it's a new bike). But that's just my opinion.
Hope you guys enjoy the experience no matter what you decide.

Well, we hit a little roadblock to getting my wife a bike. The bank we usually bank at wants me to co-sign on a loan for a bike for her because our mortgage is in both names and they consider only her when figuring out debt to income ratio. So basically, her DTI is high due to the mortgage and she makes less than I make.
I don't want to put a loan of that size on my credit right now, at least until I get rid of my aging Jeep and get a new car.
She's pretty upset as I expected.
Now you REALLY better watch out. We found a bike for Annalisa. It's a 97 CBR600F3. Good shape, close to 20K on the clock and runs solid. I rode her home from Tiverton, RI this evening and got a little wet. Here are some pics:

Great starter bike. I should know, I owned 5 of them through the years.
bike looks in great shape too, she will be psyched, good luck and safe riding.
So everything worked out?
Hope to see you both riding around soon!

Nice bike, glad you did not go with the Hyosung ... don't think you/she would of been happy with that bike.
If loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to ride would do.
Well, it's official. Annalisa is now a licensed motorcyclist in the state of MA. She passed her MSF this afternoon with 100 written and missing one point on the road test. (while doing a u-turn. she ran over the yellow line)
No feet down and no missed shifts.

That's awesome! Congratulate your wife for me! That's a pretty sweet starter bike! I just passed my MSF course in June also, tell your wife if she ever wants to go riding with another N00b to hit me up! We'll terrorize the streets! Bwaahahaha! I bought a '92 Suzuki GS500E for my first bike. It's not exactly stylish, but it gets me around and saves on gas. I wanted to get something I could beat on a little anyway, and not care if I scratched it up.
Well, Annalisa's come a LONG way since she got her license back in August. We went on her longest ride to date. 150 miles, round-trip, including 20 miles of slabbing, which she stay with me at a consistent 65.
We brought Ethan back home to Chicopee on the bikes, taking rt 20 out & back and hitting up some nice local roads as well.
She'll be ready for group rides next season, no problem.
