So I was riding home on the 4th along I-89 going north passing some people in the left hand lane when I saw "Speed Checked By Aircraft". I half thought it was a joke, but sure enough up ahead about a mile there were two cops parked in the median and one walked out in the middle of the road to flag me over to the side. Apparently I was going 78 in a 65and that the aircraft had radioed down to tell them to pull me over. Either the cop was feeling patriotic or took pity on me since I still had another 3 hours to go to get back to NY, but he let me off with a warning. So the moral of the story...watch out for those sneaky airplanes/helis. I had no idea they even used those in NH.
Bastards.
Thanks for the info. I have never seen them in NH before.

Friggen rediculous...first down south, now up here, always being watched.
Thanks for the information.
fucking big brother does it again
Not sure how it's cost-effective to fly an aircraft for speeding citations. I know NH has been doing it for years. That would be a ticket I'd challenge. I assume that there would be a lot of variables that the State would need to establish (e.g. airpseed, accuracy of instruments, calibration, etc.) They'd have to put the pilot and mechanic on the stand to testify to all of the aircraft factors, in addition to just the calibration/accuracy of the radar gun. It's a fight I'd take on.

That happened to me when i was in college heading back to Plymouth.
Good thing they can't see bikes in the rain....few weekends ago
we were traveling @ speeds higher than 78![]()
Oh without a doubt I'd fight it if the cop had given me a ticket. I don't even know if they use a radar gun. A friend of mine told me the guys who fly overhead to catch speeders have to take a course to judge speed based on the white lines on the highway, but how accurate could that really be.
But there is an inevitable human factor involved there, it's not like pointing a gun and saying "my radar gun clocked you at 84mph". You say well I started the stop watch here and then there, my first argument would be, well if you started it late and clicked it off early it makes it look like I crossed the points faster than I was actually traveling.
If that ever happened to me, I will fight it until the end. It's bad enough so many officers exaggerate the speeds already.
I saw someone get nabbed by 2 troopers on the side of the road on the way home 93 south on Sunday. There was a large group of us and the picked one car out of the group. My first thought was where is the plane/chopper.

Exactly...and that extra little bit could cost you extra bucks in terms of a fine or more points on your license if you're right on the threshold of a certain violation. I remember a couple years ago, a story came out that an RC51 got clocked going 200 MPH by a heli cop. Granted those bikes are fast, but obviously that cop messed up somewhere.
They caught a guy right around Hopkinton on 89N doing like 160 from a heli... they're up there every once in a while.
You're from concord? Welcome to the site.
they don't use radar. You are timed over a long distance by the white lines painted on sides of the road.... it is like 2 miles or so.
Probably more accurate than Radar.
The use it quite often at the Hooksett Tolls, near Plmouth, NH and again near Campton, NH. I guess on 89 now as well.

No joke, NH has been doing it for longer than 10 years. I know there was a pattern to calculate when they were going to be on 101, but that was a while ago and I doubt they do it that predictably anymore.
Generally speaking you get 10 over, so 75 in a 65, generally is ok; go over +10, and you take your chances.
My experience has been: using defusing techniques will result in a warning. In other words don't be a dink, don't argure, be humble and honest; yes sir, no sir, I'm sorry, you're right and I should know better. Acknowledging the officer immedeately, in this case a simple nod 'yes' to confirm you understand the signal to pull over, or in a car; brake lights and turn signal - and make sure you pull over in a spot that exposes the officer to as little danger as possible.
I've been yelled at, had my lisence thrown back into the car, and recieved warnings, but my last moving violation was more than 20 years ago.
Hope this helps someone.

NH has been using aircraft for at least 35 years that I know of, when I lived up north in the mid 70's, the statie that was pilot was my next door neighbor
btw, I know of one person that was stopped well in excess of a ton, clocked by aircraft and got away with a warning. maybe he will post and tell us the story

A man without a gun is a subject LETS GO BRANDON
I heard NY uses private pilots logging their hours to do spped checks, certainly cuts the cost!!
The airplane fuckers got me for 136 in a 65 zone a buncha years ago in my Alfa Romeo GTV6....... Fuckin' fuckers.........![]()

It helps to have a clean record as well, they look at your record and think "no tickets in 20 years hes responsible ill let it slide" that same cop takes a look at my record and starts writing, i have had a cop tell me straight up i was gonna let you slide till i saw your driving record. Its a raw deal, but your gonna play you gotta pay.
We competed in One Lap of America in 2002 and 2005. We also saw some pretty creative speed traps during those weeks. Airplanes. Heli's. DPW Dumptrucks. Officers leaning up against bridge pylons, etc..
Still a clean driving record. Good times.

guess i lucked out on 89/93 on sunday
