THIS THREAD IS A THREAD I BUMPED FROM 2005, I DID NOT CRASH RECENTLY
http://photobucket.com/albums/v404/j...0August/Crash/
Uphill right hander, yellow sign saying 20mph. I've done the corner nearly a dozen times, decided to try it a little quicker. I went into it at maybe 35, was fine till the apex, and then it gets a little tighter, I leaned into it a little more, and the peg feeler touched down, skipped the rear tire ( I think, happened really faster after that) and lowsided. Got slammed down on my right knee, I *think* that took the brunt of the impact, as nothing else besides my gloves are scuffed at all, besides a few small spots on my jacket.
Luckily not a car anywhere near me, I hit the ground and slid maybe 10 feet, watched the bike slide across the other lane and off into the grass. First thought was to get the fuck out of the road, so ran over, shut the bike down and somehow managed to stand it up even though the topside of it was facing downhill.
Damage-
Bike: Right fairing shaved up pretty good, engine cover, mirror, turn signal, wind screen cracked, tail pipe rashed, bar end slider, brake lever ground down a bit.
Gear: Right knee/shin torn up pretty good, some scuffing on the upper thigh/hip. A few small scuffs on the jacket, and my right glove took the worst of it. Hole burned right through the palm, plastic knuckle protector smashed in/scuffed, top of wrist on glove rashed up. Eyelets on boot ground down/pinched shut (I almost couldnt get my boot off, the laces were pinched into the eyelets) And top of boot scraped up a little.
Bodily: Right knee is sore from getting body slammed, lower back on the right side feels like someone hit me with a sledghammer, as my body twisted a funny way when I hit the ground. Other than that, not a single scrape or cut on me, just some sore bones.
Leather =![]()
And I know all too well why it happened, not enough experience, but when that peg hit down, I knew I was leaned over too far, and wasnt using my body in the turn at all, making the bike do all the leaning. But hey, thats why I bought a used bike and a full set of leather. What doesnt kill ya makes you stronger. Now I know, and the knowledge I took from this will be put to good use.![]()

SOOOO glad you're okay and that your gear did it's job. Just another experience to learn from.
Get your ass back on the bike and let's get together and go riding!![]()

On a good note, theres no longer any remaining chicken strip on the right side of the tire. LOL Too bad on a 150 rear on a 10 year old bike, when you hit the edge of the tire the peg feeler touches down and lowsides you.
I'm not too broken up about the whole thing. Happened an hour and a half ago, and look at me, I'm sitting at home laughing about it. I guess its about as good of a crash as you can have, the one you can walk and ride away from.![]()
That looks like a Rt. 116 corner. How far off am I?
Glad to hear you're okay, time for some rearsetsThat's one way to look at it!
Tyler Hill Rd. Guilford, VT. Its right as you turn off of Rt. 5 heading North towards Brattleboro. You turn up the road, uphill easy left, and then that corner, which is nearly a hairpin.![]()
Damn I was way off. It looks like a corner on Rt. 116 on the back side of cummington/goshen.
Glad to hear your OK maybe time to retire the workboots.
Its a good excuse to finally buy some moto-boots.Originally posted by Zero

Glad your ok... At least you Low-Sided!!
glad to see ya up and about Jeff !
nice corner too !
Ouch. Stuff happens though. Dress for the crash, not the ride. Looks like it's just a flesh wound on the machine.
Time to ditch the sh*t-kickers and get a nice set of Oxtars or Sidis!
Regards,
Mike

Damn Jeff, I feel partly responsible, I should keep my mouth shut next time. (I told Jeff how I scraped my pegs on that very turn last week - first time in about 12 years of riding that I had done so.)![]()
Glad you had on the right gear.

dude, sorry! i did that twice. i think i've learn to corner well enough to stay on 2 wheels now.
tip: flick it in enough once to avoid major correction to steering. - from Keith Code.

"fuckit!"
When you get the bike back together double check the sag on the suspension.
You mention 10 year old bike, I don't know what bike it is, and I don't know how much you weigh, but dragging hard parts to the point of crashing @ 35mph in a corner marked 20mph makes me wonder if your suspension was shot.
I thought you were going to say you went through it at 55-65 mph and crashed. 35mph was a bit of a suprise.
Haha, it wasnt your fault Keith, I was thinking of a different corner altogether when I talked to you before, further down the road.Originally posted by VFRKeith

Glad you had on the right gear.
I just plain ran out of lean of the bike itself. The front tire was scuffed all the way to the very edge, but the rear drops off pretty severely right at the very edge, and if you had the tire up on that edge, you'd be dragging the entire side of the bike, which apparently I did.No ones fault but my own, just have to learn from it and move on.
And everything on my body feels great, except for my right wrist, which is pretty tender today.![]()
I lowsided the exact same way 4 years ago.
It's not lack of rearsets (I was on a Superhawk), it was lack of proper form, and I was very comfortable dragging pegs at that point.
You're still a pretty new rider, don't run before you walk...
Glad you are okay.![]()
Boston --> San Diego
Glad you were wearing your gear and are alright.
Are you sure it was the peg that hit and not the can?
Either... way... get your ASS OF THE SEAT.

No, I still solely blame you. Had you come riding with me, I never would have spent the whole day servicing my bike, and never would have gone out for that one last ride in the evening. So responsibility is completely yours.Originally posted by FazerChic

Glad to hear you are OK. I don't mean to preach but I'd getting several thousand "incident free" miles under the belt before really pushing it, which I'd save for a track day under instruction. Kudos on wearing full gear, and good luck!
