I had a chance to put (literally) a few miles on one this weekend. I have NEVER ridden, driven, or been a passenger in or on ANYTHING with that kind of acceleration. I can honestly say that there's absolutely no need what so ever for that type of power...
Example: putting along in 2nd gear at about 40 MPH...
-put absolutely NO effort into rolling on the throttle and enjoying the ride as you almost immediately are watching the front fender in front of your helmet, guiding you down the road. No, I normally don't stack wheelies...
-put a little weight on the clip-ons and hang on for dear life as the bike kicks out sideways and leaves a 20' strip of black rubber on the road behind you...
This thing'll rocket you to 100 MPH before you can catch your breath...
At about 6000 RPM's you're life changes a bit as you feel a decided kick in the ass. At about 9000-9500 RPM's you find religion and everything around you takes on a new appearance. Scenery is no longer trees and rock walls and grass and pavement. It quickly turns to a greenish-brownish-grayish blob...
While the exhaust is perhaps wunna the ugliest I've ever seen on a production streetbike, it's also wunna the sweetest sounding stock notes I've ever heard...
I've been telling Cheryl for years that if they ever came out with a black one (sans the first generation), I'd be getting one. Not now. I can't afford to own a bike like that and I NEED my license to commute to & from work...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
so what you mean to say is... "ahhhhh ffffFFFFFAAAAHHHK!"

Ya. That's pretty much what I've been hearing. I agree, definately a squid killer. Shit man, National Caliber RACERS say the bike is a monster.. that's messed up.
Boston --> San Diego
The first time stoner rode the 1000 he was like aaawwhh fhauk!
To add to the squid killer line
My girlfriend was talking to her gansta white (**edit she yelled at me, it isnt her cousin, its someone not related to her but is still sorta kinda considered a cousin**) sorta-kinda cousin this weekend and he told her that he was going to buy a CBR1000RR (he has a dirtbike so he'll be fine he says). She asks him if hes going to wear a jacket and he says nah I dont need it. She says what if you crash, he says nahh I won't. She proceeds to tell him that I have a bike and he says what kind, when she says a ZX-6R he says "oohh my bike will kill his."

gixxer 1k is more like it.. i wasn't sure what that cruiser "talk" was all about on saturday.![]()
Back when the TL-R was released I'd contemplated one but couldn't get past the heft issue. Recently, I'd revisited the thought of a TL-R, if I could find a clean one. Not so sure about that now. Thanks for clearing my head, Jay.![]()

Hmmm, who do I know that has a clean TLR????
Hmmmm...........

HA! Nah, MY TL-R is not now nor will it ever be for sale. Sorry...
BTW-Why is it people need to mention the so-called 'heft' of the TL-R? Compare specs on say, a Y2K TL-R to a Y2K RC-51. I think you may be surprised...![]()

May my TL1000R rest is peace. I loved that bike and miss it so much. I been thinking about getting a nice pretty bike though. RC51???? or Gixxer 1k?

I now have 2100 on my 05 GIXXER 1K
I am ONE happy camper.
I am following my friend on his wounded rc51 home from VT on 89 doing the buddy thing.
We are cruising at about 90 him leading. So I am a little bored and decide to see sompin.
I down shift till I am in the power band about 9 K so 3rd gear at 90.
I grab a handful and all she does is spin the tire. I feel the wiggle and watch the tack spin up. Holy Crap !! 2 mintutes later try it again same result.

DO I need this no..
I reduced the compression dampning so she floats over the bad pavement and even with the painted plank seat did 560 miles. 20 of which was a dirt detour. SO it is das ubersport tourer as well
I did use all the power of the 97 yzf and the motor was weak at 12K and now its burn so its getting a head so I will sell it. Its a dirty secret that superbikes will not last long if you wring them out all the time. Now I have a bike that does everything I want usually at under 9000 rpms so my hope is for reasonable life.for the motor
course I am already looking for a new rear tire![]()

Ohhhh, now why did you have to bring the RC into this discussion? Answer me this, which bike is still currently in production and which bike won numerous races?Originally posted by Stoneman

zx10 is still the king by some of the mags.
that 20' mark is probly due to stock/new tires. put PP on and you'll lift the front before the rear slides.
i stayed pretty much on midrange on the curve but i can run out of gear when riding on 1 wheel in 2nd.![]()
"fuckit!"
It's still in production simply because it still sells...Originally posted by skiierx

Winning races means nothing to me. Nothing at all...
I went with the TL-R over the RC-51. Mostly 'cuz the RC's are a dime a dozen. They were then, they are now...
I've got nothing against the RC's. Nothing at all. It DOES get under my skin the bad rap TL-R's got, supposedly when compared to 'em though. On paper - at least the 2000's - they're almost identical, spec-wise...

i was at the suzuki dealer today and the sales guy was very adimate that the sv-1000 is the same as the TLR, same engine just newer design, buy the sv, add the full fairings and you have a "still in production" TLR
very similar engine, yes... but completely different other than that. Mark (TLRMan) seems to be THE MAN when it comes to the differences between the Tiller & SV1k. He's got a Tiller, his brother has the SV1k.Originally posted by reiobard

I would have to disagree that the RC is a dime a dozen, comparing it to the TL maybe (reason being is that the RC is still being sold). The thing is that the inlines are all in the category of the dime a dozen (gsxr, zx and cbrs) bikes. I am not saying anything bad about the TLR, it was a nice bike in its day but it did not sell well, therefore it was eliminated from production. The RC probably will be too but with the designers not doing any changes and it still selling well, they will keep it around for awhile longer. The RC does handle better then the TL, well at least the ones I have been on, in my opinion of course.
As for the SV, I like that bike a lot however it is not a TL (S or R), it was refined and is marketed to a completely different type of clientel. I know the SV650 is being picked up by a lot of racers but the 1000 is no where to be seen on the track.

The 'problem' with the TL-R's was that 'Zook gave up on 'em after the first year. Sad, but true. They didn't wanna put the effort into TWO superbikes. The RC was Honda's glowing stone, so to speak. Their ONLY superbike at the time...Originally posted by skiierx

I say they're a dime a dozen 'cuz everywhere you look, you see and RC. Again, I have nothing against 'em. And I don't wanna turn this into an RC/TL-R thread. Remember the Gix 1K?
But just to rebute (sp?) something: Harley Davidson hasn't won a race in I can't remember how long. Nor has they're design changed much over the last 80 or so years. But they still manage to sell their share of bikes...![]()
