I'd like to start doing some inexpensive (sub $100 if possible) weekend long sport touring trips this year... either leave Friday Evening or Saturday morning and return Sunday evening.
Any pointers? Things to see, places to stay, people to go with?

Sounds awesome to me. I'm going to Jersey at some point to visit my friends and Atlantic City this summer, but I'm doing a long weekend.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
I'd go N west. Towards Lake Placid, NY. Nice little town. On the way you can do T**** road + bunch of other nice roads in NY and VT. I did Adirondacks last summer. 3 day trip. western part is not that impressive. Stay to the eastern part, get a hotel in Lake Placid and party! Nice roads and scenery, but might be a little crowded on weekends. T**** road is never crowdedtho.

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
I'd abso-f'in-lutely be up for this if you want company. I think camping's probably the most economical way to do things, but don't know how my back would appreciate that after hours of riding. Either way, I've been wanting to head north into Canada and also northeast up to the Bar Harbor, ME area. I've pedal biked in that area and it was absolutely gorgeous.

Would camping work? Where the hell would I stick my tent? Gotta find cheap ass coke motels and split the room. lol

...uh...me?
I know a few two and three night rides that are entertaining. Includes Catskills, Daks, Green Mountains and even Thousand Islands.
I'd love to go with a few folks on a couple of these...
...if you'd have me.

I'd be down.
The only real "touring" ride I've done was heading up to VT/NH and driving all of the gorgeous roads up there. I also did that ride in one day (left early, rode way up VT, then rode back down and home to MA). All the routes seem to be dotted with camp grounds and B&Bs, so those shouldn't be tough to find.
Some options: Adirondacks, Maine coast, Finger Lakes region of NY, even a long ride through Vermont and NH. If you take a three-day weekend, you can do a ride up to Tadoussac, Quebec, which is a really nice little town close to some outstanding roads. A four-day weekend would be enough to ride around the Gaspé peninsula, which I highly recommend. Effing beautiful up there.
Pics here from a 4-day trip Catamount and I did up to Gaspé and the Tadoussac area last fall:

If you want to plan a weekend riding Vermont roads, I'm sure we could find you a place to stay with some of the Burlington-area NESR crew, and of course show you some great routes.

I'm down!
Hit the touristy places with the nice cheap $40 motels. Lot easier than camping!

I'd love to join you on a few of those rides! I was looking at doing something similar this summer but wasn't sure who to go with. From what I hear W and N are the directions to head for 2-3 day trips.

seconded for ticondiroga. there are a few nice places to stay in middlebury vt which is about 20min from ticondiroga, and from there it's a quick jump down 30/74 to the ferry. after that, pretty much anywhere you go is awesome, particular if you head into the heart of the adirondacks. i'm a big fan of blue ridge road through newcomb, though the pavement's dropped off a bit in years past.
finger lakes is a beautiful area, and 28 has some nice bits, though the traffic can be iffy sometimes, since it cuts through the finger lakes and is one of the more main roads around, as far as i know.
i'm totally game if i'm around, though. and i just installed my garmin zumo 450 on the SV![]()
hurray, strikethrough!

Pick me pick me!
Unfortunately, I wont have the chance to get out on a long trip this year and thought about doing something similar. (Debated on seeing what cars are @ Watkins or Montreal this season).
Some weekend runs would be great!

I think we might have to put together a NESR weekend trip.
I'd like to camp, but all i have is my bigass, 4 story, 72 person condominium tent..... okay, not really, but the thing weighs like 20lbs.

This thread reminds me of the Camp Meade days
Is the sub $100 thing all expenses? Unless you eat grass and treebark, and your bike runs on water, I don't see that being a realistic number![]()
Yamaha
the Camp Meade days are what I was envisioningMic invited me on the last one but ended up not being able to go. I was so bummed.
As for the 100 bucks thing, I wasn't including fuel cost. Prices change & so does consumption, depending on mileage & the level of hooliganism![]()

If you're keeping track, I'd be interested as well.
