camp meade=the good old days!
this year i'll be doing several overnight camp outs on the gsa.
although i'll be looking for twisty dirt roads in addition to pavement.
iv'e always wanted to do the golden rd in northern me.
btw: there are a bunch of places in vt where you can camp for free

Anyone looking to ride and camp needs to look into a decent bivy tent. Easy setup and many roll up into a damn tiny pack. Make sure its got a good screen...fuggin skeeters! Lots of state parks and many free camp areas if you look hard enough. Sounds like many are jacked for a long trip.![]()

If you figure 4 people to a hotel room, it'd be pretty inexpensive, even for a nicer hotel. I'm all set with sleeping on the ground after doing 400 miles of riding.

No pictures or making fun of the guy with a loofah though.

That's for sure! Leaving home on a Friday night and returning home Sunday night with close to 1,000 miles logged on a R1 was pretty cool shit. The group rides, drinking all that beer in the evenings around the fire, the fart machine...good times, good times
With 4 people cramped in a hotel room, where would one keep their bike?![]()

Nope, wasn't me. I stayed in outskirts of Maryville, TN when on a trip to deals gap. Wasn't too far from gap, hotels pretty cheap and there's places to eat around. I heard about Gatlinburg and tried to avoid that.
Lake Placid is a tourist trap, but it's nice there, lots of hotels and places to eat and party at night. I'd stay there for a night as a part of route. Also you can enjoy nice scenery around that area, even with a little more traffic than everywhere else.

Camping is directly within the spirit of this trip!
Pete, you post a weekend trip to Niagara falls and I will come.
wait...what?
Anyways, been trying to get out there for almost 5 years now....

I wouldn't mind a weekender to Niagara.

If you come up to Vermont we've got a place that people can stay. It's a summer camp on Lake Iroquios (near Richmond/Hinesburg). It's maybe 25 min south of Burlington and about 2 hours from T**** Road. It would be glorified camping but the price is right.

I love weekend mini-touring! Camping is alot of fun in and of itself too, but necessarily reduces the actual amount of riding you're able to do and requires you pack a hell of alot more stuff.
My wife and I usually motel it on short weekend trips and save the camping for longer getaways.
Most of the good destinations/routes have already been mentioned, but I'd like to throw in CT - the CT shore is beautiful and there are alot of nice places to camp/stay down there. I'm partial to the CT River and mouth area - Essex and Old Saybrook are nice towns to visit for the weekend.
