The goldwing is a market anomaly IMO. It will succeed no matter how butt ugly it gets. Is there even a market for a goldwing light? That is the question here. I think they explored that with the PC800. A very small group loved it, no one else understood it.
This is by far better looking than the PC800, but it's only different in that it's a big bore V4. Is this the place to focus that motor?
Isn't that where the ST1300 slots in?That seems to sell faily well, at least enough to have kept it around.
With the Goldwing, the ST1300, the new NT700V, the DN-01, the VFR800, and now the VFR1200, I'd say Honda has absolutely saturated the touring/sport touring segment by overlapping so many models. The article says it won't replace the 800 or 1300, but I'm willing to bet it will steal quite a few sales numbers away from those two. I don't think the VFR800 has sold well the last couple of years anyway (I see leftovers all over the place).
That motor isn't going to be a hot rod in the vein than some had hoped. Early hints had some hoping the bike would go after the Hayabusa/ZX14 niche. You aren't going to get there with a SOHC motor. It will be big, torquey, and smooth. Sure you could hot rod it some, but SOHC limits your tuning options. Add in the shaft drive, and it will be squarly aimed at the Concours 14/FJR13 market. The auto option will be a little one upsmanship, instead of a horsepower race.
For me, I'm working on becoming a crusty old curmudgeon, so it will be too new-fangled for this old fart.
It's the CBR1000's fatter, more imbred cousin. The automatic transmission adds another 22 pounds to the bike, bringing the total ready-to-ride weight for that version to 613 pounds.

Now there is a POS Honda that deserves universal condemnation!
Its like a rolling leopard skin couch!

I think you are right. I'm scratching my head on this one. Be interesting to see how well the bike does.
Reminds me a little of Suzuki with their Bandit and Katana. Both bikes essentially were in the same market, and functioned similarily. One just wore different clothes.
I'd put those wheels on my VFR... to bad it's 5-lugs vs. 4 lugs...
Wait... when did I need to start worrying about bolt-patterns on my motorcycle?

Maybe good For someone who wants that sort of thing or really cool for a trike conversion for someone who is disabled.
Not for me

Impressive engineering, if there's a market for it or one opens up is another question. Sounds like someone would be able to do wonders with the engine if they wanted to. Wasn't the magna a V4 shaft drive by honda? This article says this is the first.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
what the fuck is this:
someone's been gaming a little much...

It's funny -- the more new bikes Honda puts out, the less interest I have in ever owning a Honda again.

I had one. Fun machine, still haven't found a bike that're replicate the odd tickle in the back of the head it produced on full twist, and I've been on faster bikes. Just something about that V4. Last I knew my machine was making trips across Canada and down to Baja every year. I should check up on it some time.
