    Who'd ah thunk. Stock FZ1 @ 138hp

-->Just got the Baseline dyno numbers for my pretty much stock 01 Yam FZ1 with 28,000 miles and I couldn't believe the dyno numbers. The only thing done to this bike was add a Yoshimura Slip On and the avg hp was 138.84 for 4 runs.

Has anyone else got dyno numbers for an FZ1 or R1 to compare these to? I've been told that the '01 had a few more horse than the other years. Supposedly they detuned it more after the first year[?] Stories have circulated proving and denying this.

BTW - Rob's Dyno Service Rob is a great guy. He is doing an excellent job and his attention to detail and research ahead of time say a lot for the quality of his work. He gets my seal of approval.

Those are pretty respectable numbers! All I know is at the Dragstrip, an FZ1 got the jump on me off the line and I was in the trap by the time I caught and passed him.

The time slip was funny for that race. I barely squeeked by him (less than 0.1 second difference) but my trap speed was 12MPH higher!

Well.. thats one for the 01 as not as detuned.... I find it hard to believe that a Slip On could make that much difference.

    Anyother dyno graphs out there?

Not to piss in your wheaties, but the dyno is only good for relative measurements. You won't get the same readings on different dynos. This one just reads high. Not saying an FZ1 can't make 138 HP, but it's not going to happen with just a slip on. I bet stock 2001 R1 would make about 150 HP on the same dyno since they were about 12 HP apart.

this is from holeshot.com i would link it but it only lets you link the front page

also if you don't have it jetted i would recommend his jet kit

also check holeshot.com to see a bunch of dyno charts and vids of different variations of the fizza

so i think i will be happy when i go to see rob and his dyno to fine tune mine, because his numbers seem high dale from holeshot says about 120 stock fizzy and about 143 with the full exhaust, stage two jet kit, advancer, and pods. also other people from the fz1 site have showed 2-5 peek hp increases with a porting of the boots mod

so if robs dyno shows you about 14hp higher than dales i should be looking at numbers like 160!!!!! that would be SWEEEEEET!

Understood, it's a standard. However, it seems the actual correction factor used is ommitted/missing? My '99 R1 pulled over 137 hp on a Dynojet 150. But, it was snowing out by the time I rolled the bike off and headed home. Cold, dry air at high atmospheric pressure, at a low altitude, combined with a correction factor of 1, can net some nice HP gains.

wow that seems high for a FZ, but I will tell you this those things can be freakin sleepers. My uncle has one (2006) with a a few grand in it and its supposed to be pushing 150 rwhp. That is nasty, when we take off from a roll on I cant stay with him, not even close

seems a little high but not out of the question imo. Probably a combo of a strong motor and high reading dyno...

Even higher! Those mods haven't been done yet. Seems a little wonky the more I read here.

Yeah that is the way to do it. Temp and humidity included.

the other 2 variables I don't know... anyone?

    - in-HG

    - STD

    BTW 500hp - wow

in-Hg is barometric pressure (inches of Mercury)

STD means the dyno was in Standard correction mode instead of SAE.

I wonder how long a ZX-10R engine can make 500 ponies before it grenades?

    Cool well that helps.

The concept of Barmetric pressure is slightly avove my pay grade but something in theroy I can grasp. You seem to have at minimum a passing understanding of this stiff. Can you shed any light on the STD [Not venerial disease] vs SAE?

I'm not sure what the "standard" correction mode is. It could vary depending on the dyno manufacture and it might be customized to the individual dyno. SAE J1349 JUN90 is a standard set by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to try and provide uniform results regardless of where you get your vehicle dynoed. The equation uses temperature and air pressure to calculate a correction factor. SAE requires a witness to the test if a product is going to display the SAE J1349 logo.

    where:
cf = the dyno correction factor
Pd = the pressure of the dry air, mb
Tc = ambient temperature, deg C

There are a few other standards as well including ISO 1585, EEC 80/1269, and DIN 70020.

I should add that the denser the air is that is entering the engine, the more fuel it can burn, and the more fuel you can burn, the higher your horsepower will be. Both temperature and pressure effect the density of air (as well as humidity but to a lesser extent). This is why horsepower values can vary depending on the location of the dyno and the climate it is in. The correction factors were developed to try and keep measurements accurate regardless of the environment the dyno is in.

Special closed-deck block. Not a problem. I weldeded it myself.

Muzzy's Stage I kit looks interesting... $4k for boost, or Ohlins R&T fork and shock?
