Probably has a BMW front wheel-sized indentation in the front of it too. Just a heads up, if you're on 495S, right in the middle lane is a friggin' monster crater. Bad for cars, disaster for bikes.
495 is a huge piece of shit up there. That sucks man!

what part of 495??
Fuck, I swear I typed that in to the post as well as the title.Southbound lane on the Lawrence bridge.
Sucked to hit it in my car, but all I could think of was that if anyone on a bike hit that thing at anything remotely close to 65, they'd be over the bars and into the oncoming lanes.

Boo but thanks for the heads up.
Is there a good website out there for checking road surface conditions?
Checked out MassDOT website and only found traffic cams under traveler info (and can report problems but not see outstanding ones?).
Found construction reports on the Rand McNally site
http://www.randmcnally.com/rmc/tools...tionSearch.jsp
but again no taking into account man-eating-pothole or washed out road, etc.
So is there such a thing?
Can't you complain to the state DOT about it being a safety hazard?

You have to have a wirrten complain.
Then 60 days later if your vehicle is damaged they'll pay for the repair.
However, this will takes months, even years, a lot fo time, and effort and at the end of everything, you'll get a letter of denial due to insufficient proof.
Thanks for the heads up. I take that every morning (2am). This morning I took the bike and thankfully I was in right lane. Almost hit a stupid possum that was nosing around in the middle of my lane (my bad for excessive speed in limited view conditions), but good to know about the crater, will stay out of that lane. IMO that area of 495 and good chunk of 93S (and N) around Andover suck anyway. Blew both tires on the right side 3 weeks ago from a huge pothole on 93S (was raining and didn't see it)
93 North from 128/95 is pretty smooth all the way to Littleton as of Saturday. Thankfully.Actually, Little Falls PkWy was smooth as glass from one end to the other too. Might have to re-sample that one into Vermont. New England has it all over Northern Va. for closeby good riding no matter where ya ride once you're outside of Boston.

Goverment will send someone right out to check it out. Yeah right. HAHAHAHA They don't give a crap unless there is a kickback or overtime.
From 128 I got on 93N. If there's a stray P.H. here and there I didn't see any. I always take 128 South outta Essex to get to I-95N or to 93 because cutting across almost anywhere from here to Danvers or across North Reading to 93 is traffic light-laden and with LOTS of potholes. To me, the towns have crummy roads, but the state routes in Nh., Vt. and the Interstates are pretty good.
Glad I missed the lanes you're mentioning, Obs..
It's the left hand lanes on 93 north and south inbetween I'd say 95 and 495. There are only a few that are real bad but it's no where near smooth for me in the STi and I'm on the look out on the bike.

Being on the lookout is a good thing. There's a "Bump" on a bridge, I think it's at exit 23 or 22 going East/north on 128 toward Gloucester. It's smooth, but abrupt. And if you're prepared, keeping up with traffic in the Left lane, you're standing on the pegs and the bike is a foot or more off the ground when ya clear it, even this hog of a Concours14. I can't imagine a 600 Yami or CBR or whatever, hitting this thing and not launching 3 feet in the air if they're doing 70. I realize the State can't cater to us totally and utterly, but jeez, there are some landmines out there. Gots ta bee prepared.![]()
they just tore up the pavement on 93S just south of the city. grooved pavement for a bit

Yeah, it's 128 going both directions at at exit 24. Above exit 18, headed for Gloucester, 128 is smooth as glass, but back to the west, hideous. As I'm about to confirm in my own thick skull. With this weather, no job, and time on my hands, I'm gonna hit the road for a couple days, I'll have a road report for the mountain passes of NH and Vt later in the week.
Yall bee careful out there!![]()
Yea, they paved 128 last year. It's real nice up there, I don't mind slabbing that.![]()
