When we shot that, it was a 1-take deal. The director was very very happy with the first take. We could hear him actually giggling in excitement on the radios. He had no idea it was going to be that close and thought he would have some editing to do, but wasn't the case. It looked about 5 feet to me at the time. We were doing 35mph each, so 70mph closing speed.
derek
That's humorous. Derek's 'crazy riding' on the 999 is really just another day in California. Lanesplitting is quasi-legal and a way of life here. Kind of funny how it's so foreign elsewhere. Ironically enough I was riding a 999 home last night doing that very thing!
You the man Degs. I just sent that around the company.

Cool, thanks!
I lived in California for a couple of years (on Mulholland drive). Lane SHARING is legal (that's what they call it). Certain speeds only and not more than 15mph over the speed of the cars you are passing.
On the commercial, it's slowed down (except for the 'swerve' shot). It was much faster than that when we shot the scenes. They edited out all the "cooler" stuff, front wheel lifting (a bit, maybe a foot), staring at the driver as I passed etc.
That pickup scene was way too realistic ..
*shudder*
