You asked, so here it is....
I have owned many bikes, and ridden lots of makes and models.
I currenlty have an Aprilia, and have been doing the italian thing, but I have lusted for another. An SV650. They have power, good ergo's, and hooligan written all over them. I have also found that there are TONS of aftermarket parts/mods available and most are reasonably priced. Did I mention they are very affordable ?
I love all bikes, but a naked twin at that price, how could you resist ? Not sure what you have ridden, but be sure to at least demo a twin before pulling the trigger!

who you talking to?
im not into naked stuff other than women and i like to rev high.
ill ride anything that's sexy i guess.

i've looked at the sv650s and have contemplated getting one of those- I'm just concerned about outgrowing that bike too fast. My ex500 feels so wimpy now that I've put a few thousand miles on it.
I wish you the best on your decision, and think you are doing the right thing by looking at many bikes, and asking lots of people. The reason I am so fond of the SV is that it is a twin for an unreal price! Looking at a V-twin is sort of like looking at a Ford lightning. If you don't ride/drive it, it is just another vehicle with ok looks. I am not sure what the budget you are looking at, but the Tuono and the Monster are also killer bikes.
On the part of growth, I would not be to concered. When talking about newer bikes, the suspension, braking, and power of almost all new bikes, especially twins, will keep even the most seasoned rider smiling! Don't take this the wrong way, I like in-line as well, but for the most bang for the buck in round town riding, a twin really shines. You can pull the wheel with ease, and roll-on power is instantaneous, not just at higher revs!
Not sure where you live, but I can tell you many places to demo a twin. It is a hard thing to describe, but they are very different.

i'm in dudley, ma- near worcester. I would love to demo a twin- love everything I've heard and seen about them so far
Good God am I that old? I didn't understanda word of this. I gonna have a couple shots of Geritol and walk around the mall a couple of times before it opens.Originally posted by Kham

I don't want you to think that were ganging up on you here, but I don't think that you'll outgrow the SV any time soon. Let me tell you a little story about first hand experience.Originally posted by mcbgti

Once uppon a time there werte three motorcycles. The first was a Nighthawk 650. It was too big and slow. The next was a TL1000s. It was too fast and scarry. The third was an SV650, and it was just right. But, I have ADD and I sold it. I got a GSXR 750 that, on paper, split the differance between the TL and SV as far as power and torque went, while retaining the light wieght of the SV. Well, it was in in-line 4 and the low-end, around town power was nothing like the SV. Oh sure, wind it up and there was some grunt, but you were going 80mph+ in second gear at that point, and the revs and power came on awfull lickity-splitish after that. So, for the vast majority of the time, I actually had less useable power than I did on the SV. Oh, and riding the thing was like trying to torture secerates out of myself about things that I knew nothing about. Then, it was stolen. I was supposed to look at an SV650 as a replacement bike. I could never get together with the girl who was selling it though, and gave up and bought my ZX-9 off of my partner's brother. Two weeks later I was boared on a Sunday afternoon when I got a call from the girl selling the SV. I went in to Boston to ride her bike and flirt. Now, the bike had a full exhaust and is jetted amazingly well, so it's a little more powerfull than stock, but you will never get the Big Gains out of an SV engine that you can get out of some other bikes with simple mods like these. I rode it and loved it and wished that I hadn't bought the ZX-9.
If you are intrested I can see if the bike is available. If you are interested in the ZX-9 I'll make you a deal on that.

i understood you comment about sexy bitch before and i just said it's money talk a lot of the time. i've paid for high class sexy bitch before, for god sake. i was really talking about a sexy bikes such as Yamaha, Duc, the new ZX10R, etc. and as long as i can touch the ground with my feet, i will ride them.
what's the big deal man?
"fuckit!"
before I even do anything- I need somebody to buy my ex500. I have a couple friends interested in it right now- but they won't buy it until next season. So if anybody knows someone that wants a 98 ex500 w/ 12k miles for $2000- let me know![]()
I am going to make suggestion that I know will work for you. They may be the closest, but the people are great and I can all but guarentee that you can demo bikes!
New Englan Motorsports, Webster, MA Aprilia 508-943-5976
BCM Ducati, Laconia,NH Ducati 603-524-4898
Seacoast Sport Cycle Windham,NH Aprilia 603-870-9133
Greatbay Triumph & Ducati N.Hampton,NH 603-964-4450
It is funny that suz, yam, kaw dealers are the most difficult dealers to allow demo rides, but the italian and bavarian dealers are almost annoying with how they want you to ride there bikes!
I have even told them "There is no way I would buy a Mutistrada or 749" and they still insisted I ride them.
You can talk to many people, read magazines, look at specs, but the only way you will know, is if you ride them. I think that it would be good to ride both a ducati and aprilia to compare them both and to try a twin. I do however understand the economics and still think that the SV is an amazing bike that would bring you smiles for years to come!
Oh yeah, forgot to say, Good Luck with selling your bike!
I think you may be priced a little high, but you will figure out what is a good price. You may want to check e-bay and consider listing there. I sold a 748 on e-bay and got ALL the money for it!

14" Biceps. So what if I am weak...
New England Motorsports is 5 minutes from my house. I really don't have the $$$ to spend on a ducati or an aprilia- although they are very nice bikes. The SV seems like it would be a good choice- would like to try one out before I dive into anything.
I have a couple of friends that will pay me $2k for my bike as it is right now- considering both they and I have seen the same bike at dealers for almost $3500!!
I'll keep y'all posted- although it will be more likely next year before anything actually happens.
