Considering going H.I.D. on my VFR, but I'm on the fence about it.
Not certain it will give me the results hoped for...
-- Heard that results are good (low scatter) if stock lamp projects a distinct cutoff.
It does, but OEM low beam sucks, not very bright. Hoping HID would improve this.
(Stock high is quite good however, but not used near as often.)
-- Also heard of a 'delay' when firing lights up or switching low/high.
Does this botch up flash to pass or "Proceed" use?
Can you guys who have them fill me in?
I'm going to install PIAA 1100 aux. lights too, but that's irrelevent to this discussion... have always upgraded my bikes with bright lights and loud horns so maybe I'm anal... and a creature of habit.![]()

only initial warm-up has a considerable delay. You can switch to the highs for a bit & not have a big lag time when you switch back.
Shit, I don't even use my highs anymore, except when I'm in a corner and want to see a little further down the road.
I got the DDM Performance 55w 5000k kit. It's a little over 50 bucks shipped & worth EVERY PENNY![]()

You're not supposed to flash HIDs by quickly/temporarily energizing the bulb (which is a '02-09 VFR has...and I'm assuming you have a 6th gen). So you should really run regular filament bulbs for your highs.
If you have a single-bulb headlight housing w/ LO/HI in a single bulb, then the HID replacement for this is OK to flash because the flashing is accomplished by moving a physical shield over the HID's glass bulb, not energizing a different bulb.

In terms of using HID's Im one of those people who advocates using an entire projector set up rather than tossing in an HID bulb. When you put an HID light in it will throw light everywhere rather than focus it, possibly blinding others at the risk of adding only slightly greater visibility.
I decided to put in an fx35 projector, the results of which are below.

very nice set-up

Could someone link a single HID kit they'd recommend with the adjusting hi/lo reflector? My TT600 uses an H4/HB2/9003 bulb. I'd consider the projector thing but my headlight has frosted/textured glass.

Converting to a projector set up really isn't that difficult. I got the projector from a member on the yzf forums but http://store.theretrofitsource.com/ is a pretty good place. Essentially you just modify the reflector or create a support bracket to match the mounting screws, get a ballast and voila.
Projectors are required when going to HID, without it the scatter from the HID is dangerous to all other motorists on the road because halogen bulbs use a reflector to scatter the light. That being said, the DDM tuning 55 watt kit is what i'd recommend. They are amaizing. Check out a few other of the HID threads and u'll see my comparison pic.
