Doing the CL browsing before I head out, I came across this 'thing'

Very intriguing indeed.
Aside from what Wiki tells me, what else is there? I've never seen nor heard of one. Seems they didn't sell well. What's riding one like?
These are legendary bikes. They are supposedly quite a lot of fun - sort of like a better looking VStrom with better road manners and a long following in Europe http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bi...DM850-1991-01/
The price is great, but I would suspect parts may be hard to find (though not impossible)
Bah, restricted to middle weight... I'd support a proposal to allow it in LW.
At the last race weekend, the sidecar guy next to me had one of these to get around town. He loved it, and I noticed a great many standard Yamaha parts that would interchange from the 90's. If you don't need motor hard parts or bodywork, I bet the rest is very common. It looked like fun, he had DS tires on and it was coated in mud. Nothing beats a one owner bike either, he sounds sad to let it go.

Dang that sounds like a good deal.

Yamaha's sort of "adventure" bike. Note that the new Super Tenere that's been getting all the great reviews is basically just an updated version of this bike.

My first bike was a Yamaha TDM850. It had 87,000 miles on it when I sold it. It was a good machine.
