Anyone know anything about scooter racing. Its big in Asia..... but why? Are they all just racing 50cc scooters?
Because it's fun and affordable. That looks like a Vespa smallframe, which could (originally) be 50cc, 80cc, or 125cc.
In my not-long-after college days in CA, there was a statewide series for scooter races, most held at go-kart tracks.
They had racing classes from stock 50cc bikes that topped out at 35mph, on up to Open Modified, which was dominated by Lambrettas with engines punched out to 240cc, with watercooled cylinder barrels, disk brakes, and over 100mph capability (on 10" wheels). I crewed for a friend with a Vespa smallframe that had a 180cc engine from a Vespa Rallye in it.
Much fun.

Some of those scooters can fly. One of my most terrifying memories was being a passenger on my friend's Vespa screaming through the roads in Switzerland. Definitely not a 49..

Used to have what was once a rental scooter (Yamaha Razz) — super cheap and quite fun to beat the hell out of it, jump off curbs, and mod it out with a sawzall and scrap metal...without fear of messing something up. Got that bitch up to 27mpg!
This might be the only racing I could afford. I'm down!
