Hey all, been thinking of upgrading my bike and i wanted to get a yay or nay on the ZX-14 or ZX-10. A couple people were comparing the ZX-14 to the Hyabusa and that it cant corner for sh*t. Is that true? im 6'2" 198 lbs so its hard to find a bike that i dont like huge on. Think that cornering problem would be a problem with me? i dunno, send your thoughts. Thanks
It must be a personal thing because im 6'2 210lbs and I dont even feel big on a 600
What kinda riding do you plan on doing?
nothin too crazy. just everyday riding. keep in mind, that i have an 88 ninja 600r which is a little smaller than the bikes made now![]()
They corner a lot better than most can ride so thats a NO and a 1K gixxer or Busa would be more than, if not too much of a Bike for you. I would buy a 600 or 750 and then move up after it gets old.
I have no idea about Kawi.....never will srry

A guy I ride with has a 14 and he wishes he hadn't bought it. Definitely go with the 10r or a gixxah 1k if you want a liter bike. I sat on the 14 and it felt like a dumptruck but then again I'm used to an SV. I'm gonna move up to a 750 though.
i've had a lot of bikes.
i loved the 14.
it depends on what kind of riding you want to do.
i consider the 14 a great all-rounder. others would call that crazy.
it's much more comfortable than a liter. huge seat. plenty of room for a passenger (or soft luggage). going from boston to montreal or nyc, i never hesitated to jump on and head out. ton of power everywhere (obviously). you can thrash the bike all day and it won't wear you out like a liter will. better riding position. good suspension. good breaks. and you can keep up with anyone on a thou.
i traded it in for a 1098s. i also loved the duc, but i rode the 14 much, much, more.
if i had to have only one street bike, it would be the 14. it does everything pretty well.
all of the 1000's today are incredible, but the kawi is the rawest/roughest.
most bananas engine, least refined.
cheers
im new to riding but you wanna go from a 88' 600 to a new 1400cc bike??????
thats going from weeeee fun to turd in your pants at the blip of the throttle.
but i agree with pigman buy a new 600,750 or 900 even then jump on the liter + bikes.
i drove my buddies 1100 just up the road and nearly shit myself. be smart about it dont do it for status like alot of people do.

Duct tape is like "The Force". It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

Outside the box: How 'bout a liter-twin? There are lots of TL folks around the forum, I love my SV-s, and there's the Honda, too.
Go fast. Have fun. Repeat.
I like the ZX-14.
I sat on one and made vroom-vroom sounds and fell in love.
Anything handles better than a 25 year old Ninja.
I like the 14 and would suit my style of riding. You??
Consider the big picture when picking a new bike and when and where you'll be going on trips with it.
I'm sure the 10 would be a better choice for twisty roads if that factors in to your riding.
Why do you feel like you want to make the jump even over 600cc? Why not just get a modern year 600?
When I was 15 I had a 96 FZR 600 and after I learned the basics of riding on that bike I bought a 02 R6 and since then i've owned 3 or 4 600s and 1 1000 and now im back to 600s....I just think 600s are more fun for some reason I guess.
Based on what you said about what kind of riding you do If you want to make the jump from a 88 600 to a 1000 or 1400 to say hey I got power then thats you...The only time I would buy a 1000 is if it were a great deal other than that I cant justify a reason because I will never use the power. Again thats just how I think when it comes to bikes.
Any 600 from the 2000 era will be night and day from what you have now...Bike manufactures have done great things since 1988.
This prob. wasnt helpful at all im sure but its just my .2 cents.
Good luck on your descion!![]()
You can make any bike handle good. It all depends on how much you want to put into it after the fact. If I had to stick to both those choices I would go with the 10. I see too many ass clowns with the 14 and hayabusa that think they are the shit just because they have a big bike.
If I had to stick with a sport bike I would go with a 600 or something like the SV 650. Ya the bike bikes have power on you but if you can ride, when you get to the fun stuff its always a good time to school them
If you were open to any bike I would go with something a bit more upright. If I get another street bike it will probably be something along the lines of a motard. Youre not going to break your back all day sitting on a sport bike and you can have a ton of fun on them. Just think of the fun you can have when you school your firends in the twistys with a bike with 50 hpGood times.
given choices go with a 1k, my opinion anything bigger then that is too big. unless you wanna do 200mph + in a straight line on the highway but then your asking for trouble
Almost anyone with a Busa is a loyal customer
If your going on decent length rides I would go big bore comfort
busa or 14 will handle fine in real world just not as flickable in
a left right transfer etc... not common in the real world
If you think your going to be Joe Track day then maybe the real sportbike.
Glen Beck is John the Baptist
I think people are missing part of the value of the 14 compared to the 10r and that is comfort....the 14 is said to be quite comfortable for longer touring and can even take bags, passenge (s) etc. Sure its a rocket, but its got real world use as well...I have not ridden one, but I ouwld guess it is geared to be friendlier in the lower rev range as well as compared to the 10r
