Seventeen hour drive ... non stop ... and the last thing you want to do is go ride immediately when you get there. You need to rest up and start fresh cause of the level of concentration you need to have to negotiate the roads. I can't count the number of wrecks that happen within the first day of arriving where they try to cram as much as they can in the short time they are there.
To really enjoy what the area has to offer, you need 4 to 5 days of riding and resting, not counting travel time and bad weather.
I highly recommend getting the Smokey Mountain paper version of Mad Maps.

Do not get the electronic versions of Mad Maps from the Garmin website, they are pure crap and full of bugs. Plus they will not refund money or fix the problems. Both companies point the finger at each other and refuse to fix the problems.

I'm telling you guys to come to the R1/R6 forum convention. They have special rates on the cabins at Fontana, 125 pays for you dinners all week. We have a party boat night, all sorts a shit.

There are soo many good roads down there. Between everyone we can have an assortment of roads/routes to choose from.
I myself love Wayah Rd, Littel river road Rt 60, Cherohala And Route 28 into the Highlands!
LEts do it! IF we need more accomidations, myself, Clayton and KB have our old houses we could see about booking also. The people we rented from have three nice houses right at the start of the Cherohala. One has a HUGE garage with a pool table and Ping pong table. That the best house! "The ridge"

The Ridge is where I stayed last year. Pretty awesome place with a great location. Garage is killer. Hot tub too for relaxing after a long day.
What? we already went over this.
They are an absolute must have, especially if you get completely soaked half way through the ride and freeze as a result, like we all did when I was down there.
Then again with the lack of women in attendance, hot tubs turn into sausage fests
Then again after peeling off leathers in a slightly hypothermic state, who friggin cares.
I'm game for September of this year. Got 3 other people that would want to come too. I'm def bringing the KLR and the Rex if I go though....that was just a shit ton of fun last time.

I've been down before and am no stranger to the Gap area. I just don't have the time off. I have eaten it all up with track days. I could however take a week off and not get paid.
I have ridden and driven. I was actually less tired when I rode. I would make the trip down 2 days as not to be tired. I would love to go but may not be able to get the time off. This blows.

Hey ... just found out, all you R1 fucks stay home, that is the time for the SVRally!
Thats our dirt and our weekend!
I can see more legends coming from the nightly crawl back from Mount Stumblefuck.
At least it is not the same weekend as the DAM Bike Rally. That really super sucks ... riding behind a bunch of park and squirt riders.

Doc, we need to get together and plan this thing out!
I am a definate! I can even get another house or two if need be.
Where exactly is the house you spoke of located?
Who here are definates for this. Copy and paste a list and lets go from here.
If we get the house/houses reserved they will want a deposit. Then in turn those confirming will need to contribute to a non-refundable deposit/ (split up the deposit evenly amounst all confirmimg to attend)
I have organized trips for Deals Gap a number of times, there is always something that keeps peope from going. It's just life. But non refundable deposits keeps it to the serious people that want to go, as well as keeping the full payment on the hands of the organizer. (Less stress)
If you need any help with getting this together, let me know. I am excited to get down there again!
