Live life to its fullest, you never know when you'll get a second chance.
- No incidents this year, thankfully and one close call with Mr. Leo.-
When we judge a ride's success by no one crashing or getting a ticket, we should question our behavior on said ride.
Especially being a Seacoast sponsored ride, the pace should not be the same as other rides. There were a number of experienced riders who did not continue past Putney because of the pace.
Even though Dave always stresses "ride your own ride", groupthink takes over.
I want to ride many more years without a crash or a ticket.
Really? I thought the pace to Curtis Rib's wasn't that fast. We pretty much trailed cars most of the way and only had one good run if I remember.
I thought continuing past Putney was an optional part anyway, so I wasn't surprised we had a smaller group.
For the others, there's always NEDOC![]()

Just curious if it was mid-pack or the rubber-band effect taking over. Dave and us at the front weren't really pushing what I would consider "hard". Maybe my mental speedometer was off?

I was on sweep the whole day.
I did not see any undue pressure for anyone to ride faster than they were comfortable.
There were a few instances of the group being split due to slower traffic. They were passed by the front half of the group and then there was limited opportunity for everyone else to get by.
I did notice that the rule of "If you do not see the guy behind you, slow down." was not being followed as much as it should have been. This might have made a difference in keeping some people more comfortable with the pace of the ride.
At one point, I got stuck at a stop sign and it took so long to catch up with the guys in front of me that I began to wonder if I had gotten lost.
I believe that during the rest of the ride there was a fair amount of rubberbanding and that should be expected in a ride with 30 people.

Hmmm....was the pace too fast?
Honestly, little surprised at this comment after trying to follow you down Brown Ave into Litchfield...
....maybe there was stuff going on midpack I couldn't see. I did speak to one rider after some feedback from the group. But that was all I heard about.
Well....you can't please everyone, hard as I try....

I was at the front with you guys too and it was great! I love riding a good pace and nobody worries about the riders around them cause we know what they will do and how fast they ride and skill set.
This wasn't a Collective ride so sometimes we get tested outside out comfort level. If that happens then wave the rider(s) to go ahead and stay to the rear of the pack.
I dropped back to mid-pack for a portion of the ride after we left Curtis. There was a LOT of rubber-banding but that typically happens after a pass. Some riders may not have realized double yellow passing in VT is legal until Dave reminded them. Once they finally got passed the traffic, the catch up speeds were probably excessive. I remember pulling over, waving a few bikes passed and waiting for the group. The next pack showed up and I resumed down the road but I guess I didn't wait till I could see the sweep. Sorry about that Sam.
I thought this was a REALLY GREAT ride. Rather dissapointed to hear my opinion wasn't shared by everyone on the ride.
I think Ćheese got it exactly right. I was at the back of the pack and perceived a LOT of rubber-banding, too.
Still, a great ride... and an excuse to arrive early next time for a spot at the front!
Go fast. Have fun. Repeat.
