Want to see video. who has it? let us poor saps that could not go live thru u guys. video plz
and then some
Notice the only time we're right next to each other is when we're stopped? Just always assume that you have the whole road to swerve if you need to at any time, because you never know when you might have to. When we're in town and slow you can be a little closer to the bike in front of you. As the speeds increase so should the distance between bikes.
When do use the whole road and not half the lane? Whenever YOU feel you need too. It's different for everyone and why you should NEVER pass in the same lane as someone unless waived on.
Personally, if the road's really tight and bumpy (or wet) I start using more of the road at a lower speed than if it's smooth and more open. It gives more options/time to make adjustments if you need to. There is no "one size fits all" as to when to do this. It's a comfort thing.
For those who don't know what outside inside outside lanes are here's a visual. Think of the heavy black line on the left in the picture as the double yellow on the street.

Just a quick note, I find that it's quite beneficial to use more of a later apex on the street. Better sight lines and less time spent at maximum lean, thus it's a little safer. The "Ideal line" leading to the "Correct apex" in that diagram is more for the track and maximizing cornerspeed.
Good post, Mark.

FWIW: I wasn't next to anyone except when at a complete stop. I wasn't crossed tires. Nothing like that. Just not giving the full 3+ seconds I should have, not universally. And likely did not transition from in traffic/town to not quite as quickly as I feel I should.
I also could have done a better job judging one of those truck-lane passes on Rt 9.
No argument. Many things play into this, IMO. Visibility, road conditions, other traffic, 'blind drive' signs, hairs on the neck..
Wouldn't dream of passing another rider without a very clear waive.
100% agree.
"Late" is better than "ideal" and "early" can get you into a head on!
Didn't mean to imply you did anything "wrong". Just putting the info out there because there was a bunch of other newish people who could benefit from it. Your post got used 'cause I read it last![]()

I have video too. ~8GB of it! All from my Contour mounted on the handlebar. The footage is not epic, not in any way shape or form. The sun played tricks on the camera in may places. And the sound completely blows. I may or may not edit some of it down to see if I can come up with something worth posting.
I also screwed up at lunch and mounted the camera with a partial view of the speedo for the afternoon, which I did not want.
I woud like to thank everyone who came out to my ride again this year. I love meeting new faces and putting them to screen names. Special thanks to the Collective for meeting up with us at lunch and having a safe ride to and from Margaritas. Over all a great day! I had a blast and hope you all did too! Kind of chilly in the morning but it did warm up. But slabbing home on rt. 2 was coldddddddd. You guys are all awesome and hope you had a great time too!! Final number was 41. I can't wait until next year.... Happy 2012 riding season and hope you all are safe throughout the year! Thank you again!
P.s. Please do not put up any controversial photos/footage.
Thank's again ray great job had a great time its alway's good to see old face's![]()
I was never close enough to be waved by. That's why I swept.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
Good ride Ray. I was glad to meet every one. I had fun and look forward to doing it again...
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle
I would volunteer too. But I have no comms. ... Someday I'll fix that.
[QUOTE=Cheese;1165567]Glad to be a part of the deflowering of your foot peg feelers. I didn't know you were going to wear them down to a nub on your first ride with us though.
Ya the thing bout that... i took the right one off to replace it the night before but i forgot to reinstall it. My pipes are scratched up alil and the brackets that hold the pegs on are ground down also![]()
Those if us without sport bikes have a few different wearable parts that we have to worry about.
Sorry to hear about your pipes. Are yours stock? If so going rate for 109R stock pipes seems to be about $100 according to http://www.m109riders.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=135. Trick's going to be finding some that you don't have to have shipped.
I really believe that I stay well within 80% of my ability given the bike, my state of mind and weather and road conditions. I would like to think that we all share that POV..>!
