Looks like fun:Previous discussion:We are excited to announce the second running of the MAX BMW Motorsport Ascutney Hillclimb! We invite you to spend a weekend in Vermont piloting your car or motorcycle up the Ascutney Mountain Auto Road. Time trial your vehicle up 2,300 vertical feet on a twisty 3.7 mile paved surface that has an average grade of 12%, with some areas graded at 19%. Unlike other hillclimbs at Ascutney, we will be running the extended course to the top of the mountain!

Good questions - Check out the Climb Ascutney website for full details, but here is our opening statement in the motorcycle rules:
"The Motorcycle Organizers will allow motorcycles, sidecars and automobiles to compete. We encourage the entry of motorcycles of a high performance nature, capable of speeds and performance that will be compatible with the nature of Hill Climb events. This event is an invitational event. The qualification of the rider is based on racing experience, equipment, and/or past record as a hillclimb competitor. Acceptance of any entry is at the discretion of the Motorcycle Organizers."
That said, this is a rookie friendly event and we will hold a rookie orientation Friday afternoon that is designed to "get you up to speed".
Ascutney is a bumpy (in places), paved auto road from the base to the summit. Past hillclimb competitors have been most successful with supermoto style bikes, but when we did this in 2012, we had a guy on an S1000RR do very well... in fact, holds the hill record for motorcycles.
You won't need tire warmers, but if it works for your comfort level, by all means use what you are accustomed to. You'll need a generator to run them.
Often, any benefit gained by the warmers is lost by the time you are released from the start line. It's a time trial, so competitors are released one at a time, and you'll need to be staged in queue for a short period of time, but long enough for the tires to cool.
It's all part of the equation that makes hillclimb the challenge it is.
A further excerpt from the bike rules identifies the type of bike a bit better:
"Upright seating style motorcycles such as Enduro, SuperMoto and Standards with full width handlebars are the proven configuration. The road surfaces are often bumpy. Cruisers and other motorcycles with limited cornering clearance and limited suspension travel are not a wise choice and will likely be excluded. Engines may be two stroke, four stroke or electric. Vintage motorcycles are highly encouraged with prior approval and provided they meet the Technical Inspector’s scrutiny. Any questions regarding motorcycle eligibility must be directed to the Motorcycle Organizers for approval before entering the event."
Hope that helps.
Fire back any other questions you have, but come out and play!
I've put it up before. I did their last one, it's a great great time.

Hey guys I posted this on BORN the other day. My father works at the Max dealership and I have been speaking with Max directly. This event IS OPEN TO SPORTBIKES! It DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE SPORTBIKES WITHOUT UPRIGHT BARS! Other clubs have rules that require upright bars but Max wants this to be open for everyone to experience.
You can bring anything you want to this ride. They have updated the rules to reflect this here. Come out camping show up say hello and run the mountain! $175 for two days and camping?! Thats nothing!

Sucks that both of my bikes are considered heavyweights and are middle of the road for allowable displacement.

they're gonna let you run anything at this one. The biggest thing they care about is that you have protective gear and you aren't an idiot. They're opening this up to everyone to get more people interested in the sport.
Well, I bought an EX650 last year for commute and mainly it is a bar bike so I can do this as the rules in previous years called for bar bikes. Glad they change it so clip-on bikes are allowed. As much as I suck, I was actually looking forward to try this out; then it land on the weekend I can't go.....![]()
