I used to do similar tours once or twice a year. The group I did it with moved away, so it's been a while.

Tho, I was on straight up sport bikes then. I have a Vulcan 1600 now. No more dragging knee on the street for me.

You're gonna miss a whole bunch of very good riding, especially in VT. But looks like you also have a very full schedule. It would be worth breaking it up into another day if you had the time.

I'm camping at the finish point in Hinsdale. My goal on day 1 was mileage. Bomb north on the Interstate, have breakfast, and then enjoy my day as I travel south. I tried to make my time estimates conservative, so there may be space to hit a couple of loops as I make my way down to camp. Then day 2 is up in the air. It might be another big day, or I might just Route 2 - 495 home.

I am certainly open to deviations to put me on better stuff! The only things set in stone is leave from Groveland, MA and end up in Hinsdale.

Check out Middlebury/Brandon Gap and Bethel Mountain in the upper portion.

Once near Killington, I'd personally cut over towards Poultney. It's a bit out of the way, but then you get to hit 140 back towards 103 (then take 155 down) which is killer.

Once down towards Londonderry, split off 100 on Winhall Hollow Rd, then take Stratton Mtn/Mountain/W Jamaica Rd back to 100. Lots of excellent twisties there.

I'll see if I can make you a more adevturous route through mass. What bike are you riding?

Kawasaki Vulcan 1600. I'm riding a couch, but I know how to lean it over.

Fascinating and good to know now...

When I open the map in my laptop browser it uses the route I planned. Where I had to drag the blue line to the good stuff.

I click the same link on my phone, and it doesn't have what I changed. It has my stops, but it takes the fastest/shortest route between them. Instead of taking the 140/155 route it goes straight down 30.

Is it because I have the cookies in my laptop or something?

Nope, that's just how Google Maps works. It's decent as a route planner but horrible if you're trying to follow a custom route.

You can do one of two things, either use Google My Maps (a different product) or another route planner. In Google My Maps you can plan a route similar to how "normal" Maps works, but you can then export it as a KML file. Then you can use an online converter to convert it to GPX. Biggest downside is the number of custom waypoints is very limited. Alternatively, you can use a route planning software like gpx.studio, create a custom route and export it directly as a GPX file.

GPX is the file type you will want if you plan on following the route on your phone while riding. Then you'll need a mapping app that supports GPX; Gaia, OSMand, DMD2, Locus Maps, etc. You'll probably also want to download offline maps, as service in Vermont can be spotty.

Re: I will be touring Vermont and western MA July 28 and 29

Just going off what SRT said, Google my maps is quite powerful for route planning. Each layer has a max of 10 waypoints but you can add multiple layers. I just use the end waypoint as my next start waypoint. Once you've built your route, converting it to kml will allow you to follow it as a continuous route, at least on my Garmin zumo. So if you use my maps, it sort of eliminates the 10 waypoint "max" and will allow you to draw your own route ignoring highways and state roads and such.
