My bike is under the knife right now, getting new front suspension and brakes, new front and rear sprockets, a new 520 chain, and new tires. The only thing I don't have to finish the project is a chain riveter (well, and tire mounting equipment, but I'll probably just take the wheels somewhere and have them do it).
Anyone around the area have a tool I could borrow for a few days, or want to help me mount it up? (there's beer in it for you either way)
Thanks in advance!

I don't have the tool you need, but sounds like an wicked project!
What are you doing for suspension, brakes, and tires?

Thanks Jake, if you can't find yours I will ask at roadside tomorrow night!
She's getting a '05 GSXR 750 front end with 4-pot tokico calipers, '07 gsxr master, and HEL stainless lines. Tires are a set of bridgestone BT016, and putting on -1/+3 sprockets with a 520 chain. Custom paint on various bits: top and bottom triple, calipers, faux 'earls'-style fittings on the HEL lines, and sprocket carrier.
How she sits right now:
Needless to say, I won't be riding tomorrow...![]()

Yeah I've taken a look at Mike's new forks, they are from an '06-'07. His 650 is baddical! I used the '04-'05 so that I could reuse the SV wheel and rotors.
I'm hoping to have this thing back on the road this week (got a few days off work), but it really hinges on getting the tires on and then finding a chain tool.

No worries, thanks anyway! If I can rent one from RSM then it should be no problem.

I wish you luck with the OEM gixxer radial master. Quite honestly I think it, along with that bogus BS crap stock OEM wannabe poser electronic damper, belong no where other than the trash can. Outta the crate you can squeeze the lever to the bar. Add stainless lines and bleed 2 bottles of oil through it, squeeze the lever to the bar.
Hopefully yours pans out better, but in all honesty I've not heard anything good about those masters. Sure I can flip the bike over using just my middle finger on the lever...but I don't like the mushy part of it.
As for the chain tool, hope you found one. I don't have one, but if worse comes to worser, let me know and I can possibly borrow one. No job so I can take a ride when ever.
-1/+3? you don't have the HP I do, but you still got some TQ there. That's crazy. I'm -1/+1 and it's pretty evil![]()
Thanks slyder! I actually wound up re-using the master from my SV to add a little more slack to the braided lines. I liked the feel of the stock SV brakes, hopefully it's large enough to compensate for the larger pistons.
I rented a chain tool from RSM when I got my tires mounted up. Managed to leave an axle spacer there though, so it was back and forth a few times![]()

Cool on the chain tool.
I'm sure the SV master will be more than enough. You liked that master, you'll love it with the stainless lines. I hope you're sticking some decent pads into those calipers. EBC HH pads are crazy and inexpensive. You'd definitely see a night and day difference with the stainless lines and good pads.
Leaving the axle spacer at RSM is far better than leaving it aside when you put the wheel back on...![]()
Well, I'm glad I caught it when I did put the wheel back on. it slid from side to side... that aint right! Luckily Dan had it in-hand when I called and I was able to get it back.
Progress made! Bled clutch and brakes, and all controls installed.
Still to do: headlight brackets, clean up steering damper, mount gauges (or go aftermarket), make/buy fender, rim stripes (), ride the snot out of it!

Did someone say.... PICS!???????
Photographic evidence of the elusive SV rider in his natural habitat...
I wish I could leave it like that... still needs the stabilizer, headlight, and gauges on the front end though, that will add a little clutter. I haven't decided whether to go with the flat bars in the pics or put the MX bars back on. Probably will ride with the drag bars for a bit and see how comfortable they are.
More in-progress pics can be seen by following the link in my sig!

nice uh, shopping cart
I think she'll look better with drag bars over MX bars, though they are clearly a few inches lower.
Do we need to have the grease guard on to pass inspection in VT? I'd call it the chain guard, but if the engine case won't stop the chain, the piece of plastic they call a chain guard sure won't. Actually, as ugly as they are...if that chain is new and you haven't cleaned the white lithium grease off of it, you might want to put it back on till after a few rides....cuz that crap is gonna be every where. Oh how I love new chains
Cool pics though. Definitely one of a kind you're building, instead of the mass produced assembly line crap I ride![]()
Inspection?
But yes, Im pretty sure vt law requires a chain guard only if you have passenger pegs. And mine are not long for this world! Definitely going to clean and lube the chain before i ride though.

So without passenger pegs I could remove the chain grease guard, cuz I have no passenger pegs? Hmm.
That stuff is a bear. I cleaned mine as good as I had time for and it still flew all over the wheel.
If you want a good chain lube, that doesn't fly off......go to Ace / Foggs and I think Loews has it to, look for Dupont multi-use spray lubricant. Liquid teflon in a can
You won't believe how clean the wheel and other parts, including the chain, will stay.
