Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
If you really want to track it Doc, start a google doc spreadsheet that everybody can view so that all you have to do is refresh the link provided for the doc to get the latest numbers, way easier to keep track of than a thread like this. You can put the link in the first post.

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
those body fat % numbers are def. high! I was 4-5% body fat in college and definitely healthy as defined by a trainer who was not a dummy.

You were super active biking and stuff- male athletes should sit anywhere from 6-8%. Female athletes 10%-12%. 30% is horrendous...borderline obesity..according to the infallible wikipedia :P

go to docs.google.com
Hopefully you have a gmail account, if not create one.
On the left there should be a button that says "Create new", that opens up a drop down menu, you want to create a new spreadsheet.
Then on the right there is a button that says "share".
It will ask you to save the spreadsheet, pick a name and save it.
Then you want to "get the link to share", which will open up a dialog box.
Make sure that you check "Allow anyone with the link to view (no sign-in required)". That will give you a link. Paste that link here. Tada!
Anytime you want to edit it, either go to that link (if you are signed in to your google account you will be able to edit it) or go to docs.google.com (if you are signed in it will show you a list of the documents that you have). You can also allow other people to edit it, but then people might eff with your numbers. That way stuff won't get lost in the posts and you can actually have a discussion here. I  google docs, it works great for tracking fantasy football stuff too.

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
I'm 5'8 and 165, but... how much does 1300cc's of saline weigh? I've given up on losing weight. I can run a 10k and climb a 5.10 at the rock gym. Long as I'm healthy, its all good.

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
500cc bags weigh about a pound

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
I've got to update my weight .. I'm actually 212.

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
I'm in as well. I have been half-heartedly trying for awhile now. Time to get serious. I'm sitting at about 208 or so. I do happen to be 6' 2" though, so my goal is around 190-195. If I lost 25 lbs I would be underweight from what I understand, correct me if I am wrong?

Well I'm 6' ~180 and I'm still borderline overweight (according to BMI, which I know is an iffy tool to use, but I think it works in this case), and 6' 2" and 180 would be right in the middle of the "healthy" range, so no, you wouldn't be underweight. Now obviously this doesn't take into account muscle mass, but the heaviest thing I've seen you lift is a pizza at Donny's :poke:

lol, nice! Alright, then I will aim for 185, so that works. Yeah, I looked it up after I posted that and it lists 180 - 190 lbs as ideal for me.
oh, and that pizza is heavy man!

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
hey, anyone in the S. Burlington VT area? The Planet Fitness Gym is right in the building I work in, if anyone else could use motivation I know I could. So if anyone wants to meet there certain days during the week or something I would be all about that. Work our fat asses off together....and that sounds really awkward typed out. Anyways, how about it?

Take 5 lbs off a car & driver & the "HP Gain" is very little. Take 5 lbs off a bike & rider and the "HP Gain" is more noticable.
So, on a bike that weights less than me, I probably can get the most bang for the buck by shedding a few pounds...
f = ma -> a = f/m where acceleration a depends on force f which is constant at a given state (speed, throttle setting, gear, etc) and mass m is mass of rider plus bike.
Ballpark for me on the RS125 when I was about 200 pounds with bike at around 200 pounds as well:
a0 = f/400
If I loose 24 lbs (12%), m becomes 200 + 176 = 376
a1 = f/376
a1/a0 = (f/376)/(f/400) = 400/376 = 1.0638 (106.38%)
So, loosing 12% should translate to about 6% better acceleration. Not sure how much it would cost to make the bike produce 6% more force at the wheel...
I've already lost about 10 lbs since the holidays, but to motivate myself even more, I signed up a 5K run at the beginning of April, so I gotta start getting in shape!
It will be interesting to see how good I'll do from in May when I'll be stuck on a ship for over a month...

I'm there Sunday around 12 (chest day), Monday at like 6:30pm (bicep/ab day), Wednesdays at like 6:30 (shoulder/abs day) and then either Thursday or Friday after work for back/leg day. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be going, but I wouldn't mind getting you into lifting a bit :)

Well get on your horse, because once I get the house (3 weeks from today! :)), I'm going to try working out at home more (or exclusively, I'm not sure yet).

I could move some stuff around and could probably make some of those times.
I work in the building from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Later then 5ish would be fine, I just would have to reschedule some stuff. Do you ever come in during the day?

Re: Doc's Weight Loss thread
If you have an iPhone, check out the LoseIt app. It ties into a web site to track your daily caloric intake.
