Wanted: Street bike around $1,000 in the Burlington (VT) area

A buddy of mine just got his endorsement and is now on the hunt for a bike. Anyone know of a bike in the greater Burlington area that would suit a beginner? He's got cash and is ready to roll.

I know someone with a CX500...

There is also a CL500 for sale on craigslist and the guy will take $250.

I emailed him and he said "$250, come and get it in the next 2 days." He is over 2 hours away so I passed. He just wants it gone. He said the paint is faded but pipes and chrome seem good, seat is ripped...

Sounds like a good deal to me.

The GL has the monoshock in the back and a better electrical system than the CX.

In my garage in CT right now.

Runs great . Valid Vt reg and insurance plus inspection sticker.

I can grab it and toss it on the trailer anytime.

Ok so... I have a 1997 DR350 that I might be willing to let go. It is not street legal but could be made so. Needs a carb cleaning too (although I may get to that this weekend)

You may be limiting yourself if you/ he are not willing to travel. An hour away for a good deal is much better than staying local and get a POS. I've traveled to NY, NJ, PA for a good deal. Then again, my wife says I have a problem. Sometimes it is just gas money if it turns out to be a turd. At least you get to see the country and the people you meet - that is entertainment alone.
