As many of you know, I'm about to take off on my XR650L for a long-ass tour of the Trans-Labrador Highway, Newfoundland, Cape Breton, and Nova Scotia.
I don't actually leave till Friday morning, but I have so much shit to do the next couple evenings that I started the ride report tonight. I'm bringing my laptop along and will post updates when possible en route.

Hey Mark.... just read through your ride report and it looks simply amazing up there in Canada. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I'm looking forward to more kickass pictures like the one KillBill posted on here from your ride report page on ADVrider. Looks like I am going to have to invest in a bike that I can do this on in a few years.

In Newfoundland now. Haven't had time to post any further RR updates yet. This trip has exceeded all expectations. Simply amazing. The eastern section of the Trans-Lab was awesome. On the ferry we met up with three other riders, including Mike from Maine on a KTM 990 Adventure. Once we got on the road, Mike and I ripped down the gravel at a sustained 60-70mph. Fucking awesome, amazing, incredible, exhilarating ride. 60-70 doesn't seem very fast on pavement, but on gravel it gets the pulse going.
Finishing the Trans-Lab was bittersweet. On the one hand, there's this great feeling of accomplishment and triumph, but on the other hand, I loved it so much up there that I wish it wasn't over. Definitely going to have to go back.
And holy shit, the people are awesome. Super super nice. Upon pulling into Goose Bay and getting gas, this guy Jeff pulls in with two bikes in the bed of his Tacoma, including his brand new BMW F800GS. We start talking bikes with him, he offers to let us take showers at his place the next morning, then in the evening he turned up at our campsite with his girlfriend and they hung out with us for a while. Next day we headed over to his place for showers, then he took us to his office -- the cockpit of a water bomber. He flies one of those purpose-built firefighting planes. Too effing cool.
Okay, enough discussion of stuff I haven't put in the ride report yet. Off to start exploring Newfoundland now.
