Is there an advantage in running a 450cc motard over something like a 510 or a 525? Will the 450cc single fit in more classes then it's larger displacement brothers?
I am very much considering picking one up this year to run next year.
No, single cylinder bikes have unlimited displacement. The 450s are generally faster and more reliable because they are developed for motocross racing. LOTS of development time in the motors.
That said, some of the bigbore bikes are fast, but none seem too reliable.
unless you get say...ohhh....a KTM Duke 3.

When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

KTM 560 has a lot coming off the corners, but the 450s seem to have about the same top end. As for reliability, once you weld the crank the 560 is pretty reliable. This is my third season, rebuilt it halfway through last year while I had it apart to get the crank welded. Knock on wood no problems yet......
