I ride an R6 & a GSXR750, anyone know what it's like to ride an XR1200 bike? Why don't we see these bikes at track days at NHMS? There's one guy, Bobby Fong, whose running both AMA 600 & XR1200. Is it kinda like riding a big and heavy motard? Why don't they have an SV class and if they do have it, why don't they show it on TV?
guy had one at Tony's on the 14th
One guy, Rob something or other I think was trying to campaign an XR1200 in ULSB... NHMS isn't the ideal place for that kind of machine.
He's on the forum, speeddemon828 or somethingorother...
That bike is a niche...I would NOT want to go into 3 or 6 on one of those. But I'm afraid of almost any real bike, so my opinion really doesn't count.

I talked to Rob about it once, he said it was a very physical motorcycle to ride. Not ideal for NHMS at all, very heavy. I think it might be ok on a more open track, but as tight as Loudon is, it wasn't very fun.

That's the newer XR-X. Fully adjustable suspension. I put 100 miles on a non X past season and I thought it was fun to ride. Surprisingly nimble. With the proper set up that would put out out between 90-100 HP without straining the motor. I've thought about running one at nhms, but would need financial assistance![]()
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

I looked at them before I bought the Roadster. At the time the pre-'11 bikes did not have the "X" suspension, and the resale values were dropping like a stone. The dealer salesman I spoke to at Boston HD knew nothing whatsoever about the bike or suspension and their floor model was tucked in a corner.
In the final analysis, unless you must own an HD for some reason or want to ride in the series, they don't make much sense.

I raced one for 2 years at Loudon. The bike was very heavy and slow. My bike had about 85 horsepower and weighed about 510lbs in full race trim. We started to race the bike before the national series so we were learning as we went. We did it all ourselves and even gave Vance and Hines some input on their race bikes. I did race it at NJMP once and had a lot of fun but the bike is still out gunned by everything out there.
You have to ride the bike like a 125. If you lose any corner speed your whole lap is shot. Just try and imagine running a 500lb bike like a 125! It wasn't fun to race against other bikes but I would have loved to race it against other XR's.
I threw my leg over one and just about blew my knee out trying to get it off the sidestand.
