Was that the race that Fournier crashed his 748 in?
Don't pat yourself on the back too hard, I know Katzenburger was the main instigator.
All I have from Bridgehampton is video. Got some nice footage of somebody's daughter shrink wrapping Hawkenstein. (Or was it toilet paper?)![]()

Russ wanted to hang the bike from the bridge, I talked him into the bathroom idea, just in case the tie downs were to break........
The first race I beat Tom, Jack and Dan heads up going away. They tell me I got the black flag two laps from the end, but I saw it on the white flag lap. It was supposed to be a meatball flag, but Dennis was having a fit and grabbed the wrong flag. There was no way I was gong to pull in to the pits while looking at the checkered flag. Since it was a noise issue I figured I'll cross the finish line and coast real quietly back to the pits and deal with it. As I was removing my helmet, Steve Aspland came over to me and asked why I didn't pull in on the black flag. I was so excited and focused on winning my first race I said "What black flag?", he said "Don't say another word, not one, just stick to that!" and left to deal with Dennis.

What's this, another "stick with the deer story"?
Sort of, I was told to stick to it by the referee.
I was thinking of the race that Tom was leading when he crashed, pulling a red flag. His DQ gave you the win.
I don't recall that one, when was it?

That crash is not the one I remember... I went to the bridge for the first time in 1993, I was a new Expert and did the Penguin Advanced on Friday. I remember looking at Toms bike that night (or did it happen on Saturday??) and hearing the stories of how he lost his leg.
Talk about Freaked Out!!
I miss the Bridge.... EVERY LAP ... Talking to yourself for that straightaway that lasted an eternity.... Hold it wide open to the Bridge, Hold it wide open to the Bridge, Hold it wide... AHHHHHHHHH! Damn it!! You Pussy !!
Next lap repeat it all over again!

Good Times.... You guys dont know what you missed.
A fact that most who didnt race there never will know.... we had no warm up lap at the Bridge. We used to grid on the pit lane facing the wrong way, drive the wrong way around the front straight wall and then grid up and go. Pretty hairball because Start/Finish was still about 1/4 mile away from turn 1 and it was bonzaii !! All right handers until turn 5, the first left that caught many out with cold left side tires!!
that's about as far back in a pack as I've ever seen ya, Scotty
Cool pic. Gotta love memories, even if they aren't one of mine
BTW, I read an article a while back (a couple years ago or so) saying that the golf course wasn't turning out as well as they hoped & some people were actually pushing for a reincarnation of the race track.... any updates?
here it is, dated Dec of 2002News-Bridgehampton

More recent article has the golf course up and running, and Rubin is getting stupid crazy money for memberships. Once it was torn up to a certain degree, it would have been a lot of money to get it back into shape and overcome the legal obstacles.
