    Cush drive

The cush drive rubber pieces inside the rear wheel......Do you need them there for racing? I figure if you just got rid of half of them it would at least cut down on some unsprung weight...

    what do you guys think?

You need them. If you remove half, you'll pound your hub to death in short order.

That weight is so close to the axle, I'd be surprised if it made any noticeable difference.

Very interesting idea though... at least you're thinkin, I'll give ya that.

Right up to the point where the fucking rear wheel fell off, then you'd notice a difference.

You guys aren't telling me what I want to hear.......What I want is " I noticed no problem at all and I even knocked a full sec off my lap times".

When I did a tire change on the sv I think there was six pieces of rubber. I wonder if you you removed half if you would chew anything up??? Maybe I will be a test guinea pig...

    Re: Cush drive

If you removed half you'd be putting twice the amount of stress on the others. You mean to suggest you'd wanna be a guinea pig for a cush drive failure?

What you might wanna hear is "there's a reason no one has tried this".

Actually, I take that back. Your chain would break, or your sprocket or if you're really lucky the transmission.

I think you have an interesting idea.
I think it may work about as well as putting chain lube on with your fingers as the motor runs in 3rd gear and your swing arm is held up with 2 pvc pipes. Be sure to wear a necktie and have several hot naked girls running around, taunting you while you do this.

    Re: Cush drive

Don't encourage him Mike! Bdawkins, experimenting with that would be incredibly stupid and would endanger your life, and worse, the lives of other racers. It's not a joke. People die from equipment failure, and to tamper with the driveline in order to drop a few ounces. I hope you're not serious.

Paul's right... Seriously, though... I'll sell you some pre-lightened tires to make up that unsprung weight difference

Of all the places to try to save a few ounces, this is not one of them.

Have some Ex-Lax before your race, it'll do more good for weight reduction.

I don't think your cush drive is what's hindering your laptimes. As others have said, that's a very bad idea.

    Re: Cush drive

I replaced all my cush rubbers with stale marshmallows to save weight and they are still holding strong after almost 5 trackdays. I do notice a distinct toasted smell though and have never had such a craving for smores in my life. The rear is behaving a little strangely but I'm pretty sure that's the rear shock under the incredible strain from the weight I've gained.
